The Sad Truth About Leon Best

I'm surprised nobody seems to be looking at our misfiring Leon Best and throwing a few criticisms his way.

Because of his sudden burst of form once Andy Carroll left, and shaking off the 'flop' tag, people seem to have been duped into thinking Best is a better player than he actually is.

The sad truth is that he has scored in TWO games this season, and his last goal came on September 17th, which is over THREE months ago! For any striker, that is a pretty horrific record.

 

Plays better with Demba than any other player in the side, and can play poacher with Shola.
Will always back Best, he's got goalscoring talent and he's our best option in the air up front.

 

He hasn't scored for a while, but he has played a major part in many of our goals, and also, he has been injured

 

Like Best has said, When Demba ain't scoring I will score, and when I'm not scoring, Ba will be scoring.

He's more of a second striker than a complete striker like Ba.

 

He's been injured. He also links up the play well and always puts a shift in, decent striker, certainly better than anyone else we have (barring Ba). The goals will come soon.

 

Best tends to turn into a second-striker when he's with Ba to be honest. He seems focused more on setting up goals instead of scoring them.

Nonetheless, when there's two strikers on the pitch I want two goalscorers, so Best must offer more of a goal-threat, otherwise HBA should get a go.

 

Wasn't Best out for some time due to an injury?? Surely this has contributed to him not scoring much?

 

3 goals, 2 assists in 773 minutes, not exactly prolific but not bad, excluding assists that's a 1 in (slightly less than) 3 striker.

 

His shoulder to ba was quality. More of that if he plays tonight!

 

Probably just me, but I shall say it anyway. If Best can link up with Ba the way he did against Swansea, then he is doing enough to stay ahead of Ben Arfa. That chest down to Ba was sublime

 

He is one of the key reasons Ba has been scoring so much. I do wish he'd score a bit more but I'm not too fussed if it's Ba who gets all the goals.

 

The problem with playing HBA with Ba is that it forces Demba to act as more of a target man, which he's not good at and which limits his options. Hence why what we really need IMO is another player like Best to link up with Demba and HBA.

 

3 goals and I believe 4 assists. Lay off him. He's not an amazing striker, but he's a good all round player and a good squad player.

 

He's going to score tonight and Ba will get 2

 

Looking forward to seeing him link up with Ben Arfa during ACoN. Remember an article from ages ago and if I remember correctly, Ben Arfa said how much he looked forward to playing with Carroll(similar to Best in style). So we may potentially have a classier Carroll-Nolan partnership on our hands with Best-Ben Arfa

 

Ba has been playing as the striker and Best has been playing second striker though. That means Ba's job is too score goals and Best's job is to hold the ball up and play others in or flick it on to Ba etc.

 

best is a top notch striker always hassling the defenders and actually putting in a good shift.

 

As well as what everyones saying about him assisting Ba, theres also been quite a few times when Ba's had tap ins just a few feet in front of Best.

Also, Ba's third vs Blackburn was nearly Bests.

I really rate him and think that we play better with him on the pitch. HBA is a winger and should be played RM.

 

It is very rare for a team to have two prolific goal scorers. Usually there is one striker who makes the goals and one who takes them. If the second striker can put a handful away as well, he is more than doing his job.

773 minutes is 8.5 games. That would amount to 13 for a 38 game season. That's more than respectable.
