Skipped the "next next 5" thread but just looking ahead to the games before the WC break - only three league games, so indulge me - Looking at the 4 teams behind us, as long as we win 2/3 remaining games I think we are heading into the break in 4th 29/30th Brighton v Chelsea Man U v W Ham Liverpool v Leeds Fulham v Everton NUFC v Villa 5/6th City v Fulham Chelsea v Arsenal Villa v Man U Spurs v Liverpool Southampton v NUFC 12th/13th Liverpool v Soton Fulham v Man U NUFC v Chelsea Lot's of tricky fixtures there and almost everyone has games where it's possible to drop points - if we can pick up 6+ points (mayyybe even 5) in the closing 3 games and we will be in 4th as the window opens. Villa and Soton aren't easy games for us and the Chelsea game could be HUGE. Liverpool, Man U and Chelsea also have TWO big European games in there as well as the League Cup just to finish off a tough opening to the season while we only have the 3 league games and the cup game...
Could honestly see us winning all 3. Aston Villa beat a Brentford team that we destroyed, at our place I don't see anything other than us winning. Southampton has always been a bogey ground but in theory we could quite easily do it and Chelsea just don't scare me 1 bit.
Stick or twist? Do you throw out a reserve team vs Palace and keep the players fit for the league games or just keep ploughing on with the same starting XI game after game?
Go for the cup and if we get a result we might get another home game,5 subs so we could rest a few and if not working out bring them on,ASM could be back so he should start for match fitness, imho.
Definitely think Villa will get something at our place. I’m just waiting for a clusterfuck performance “we were due a bad day, we’ll learn’ got to remember we couldn’t beat Bournemouth at home, dropped points v Palace at home.. I think 3/4 points from the next three.
I'm hoping for 7 points from the next 3 at least. I'm actually excited for the Chelsea game to test how good we can continuously be vs big teams.
I’m the same, makes a change to be looking forward to the “big games” I tell you what, no teams will want to play us at the minute
I think 4 or 5 points from the next 3 games is realistic. Yes, I know they are all potentially 'winnable' and some will say 9 points, but it's the Premier League, it's not easy. We've got Chelsea, a resurgent Villa who know that Emery is inbound and a long trip away to Southampton (who just drew with Arsenal). As Eddie keeps saying, feet on the ground.
It's a six day rest before Villa - as this year we aren't in the Champions League - so we can recharge our batteries before we destroy the vile. Nobody will want to play us. If we can keep Wilson fit and even get ASM to return, it's looking like an achieveable target of being 3rd or 4th at the break.
Just had a look at the games Chelsea now have before playing us. After getting trashed vs Brighton they've now got a Champions League game then Arsenal and Man City before playing us. I think even if we plough on our players are likely to be fresher. Plus the Chelsea game is the last one pre-WC so we can risk it a bit, many of our players will be getting some rest for a few weeks
