With the Shrews playing three teams sat around us, it is in our team's hands to drag themselves out of the relegation it by their short and curlies. Crewe, Carlisle and Stevenage have tough last game of season matches against teams at the top of the table.
Excellent! Wanted to compare but I'm far too lazy. Obviously it's tough to call as a lot depends on form, and any one team can beat another on a good day at this level. That said, I'd hazard a guess that Crewe will do well to pick up 10 points, Tranmere would do well to get 9 and Stevenage 7. If we beat those three teams - obviously easy to say that on paper but harder in reality - and manage another couple of draws, which should be possible, I think we'll just about stay up. Notts look like all their home games are winnable, though, so I think we're hoping one of Carlisle, Oldham and Coventry get dragged into it, too.
I was thanking some wolves fans at work for their effort this week and over the next few weeks, pointing out that all the games they win help us out.
I think we have left it too late due to incompetence at board and managerial level. A side that has not had back to back victories all season is highly unlikely to conjure three or four victories out of the last seven games - we just do not have enough firepower in attack.
Five games left and we're two points and two places off staying in league 1. Our next games of Tranmere and Crewe are essential wins as it moves us up and them down into the relegation zone. 18 - Colchester --- 41 -12 43 19 - Tranmere ---- 40 -21 43 20 - Carlisle ------ 40 -21 43 21 - Crewe ------- 41 -27 43 22 - Shrewsbury -- 41 -13 41 23 - Notts County - 41 -17 40 24 - Stevenage --- 41 -21 39 Colchester are also now in the mix and have Stevenage, Oldham, Crewe, Brentford and Walsall to play. So there are some influential and tough games in there.
Someone on another forum worked out that town could survive in league one with only 46 points. Admittedly the gills game would be a tense affair.
....ah! The age old question? How many times have we asked it in the last 50 years? The only time we didn't was when in Division 2 (ooops, The Championship!). Right now, anywhere's good except the Conference! Just look at the bottom half and see how many old league clubs are there and at risk!! Anywhere above the middle of the fourth tier is OK if we play good football and are happy with the club.
i hope for 7 more points, and brentford to hammer creepies tonight. gills may not be in the mix, but they have an awkward game at posh tonight. somehow the spectre of the gas and the wobblers next season may be hopefully further away. but if not the r word this season, what on earth may save town next year? er mr TAN? or hopefully an enlarged board.
