Desert Flyer's victory at Newcastle today gives the Queen 7 2yo winners this year. A peculiar race in that there was no pace. Desert Flyer was always up with what pace there was and once they did start racing she readily changed speed, and without being touched by Havlin, gave Gosden his first Royal 2yo winner. This filly is well-bred being by Shamardal out of White Moonstone, who was the top 2yo filly of her year. It was also the 30th winner of the year for her owner which is 10 more than last year. Is the quality there?
The first entries for the 2021 Derby have been made and there are 375 yearlings entered. The Queen has 7 entered, which is a relatively high number for her but pales into insignificance when compared to Godolphin, Coolmore etc..Six are bred by the the Royal Stud:- Chalk Stream, Evaluation, Pied Piper, Realist, Shepherd's Delight and Wink of an Eye. The 7th is a Godolphin bred colt called Just Fine, by Sea the Stars out of a Kingmambo mare from the family of User Friendly. So the Queen has (potentially) 29 2yos next year.
