Which of the 4 rookies on the grid this season has the brightest future? My money is on Daniel Ricciardo. It only took him 2 races to beat Tonio Liuzzi, who is doing a sterling job in a terrible car. Paul Di Resta and Sergio Perez also have bright futures, with Di Resta being touted as Schumachers replacement at mercedes, and Checo being linked to the Ferrari drive. Maldonado has not really impressed me. The speed is sometimes there, but he is too erratic, and needs to slow down and learn from his team mate. He has a great teacher in Rubens Barrichello, maybe he should take advantage of it. Who do you think has the brightest future, and why? P.S. Mods, i forgot D'Ambrosio. Could you possibly add him to the poll?
It might be the British bias in me but di Rests has been looking none too shabby. He'd be worth a punt for any team. Perez hasn't looked at all bad either... I'm astounded at the amount of talent that has appeared in the past few years.
I know, this is possibly one of the best fields for a long long time. What is it, 11 drivers titles currently on the grid, and a batch of young drivers who will probably go on to win titles themselves.
I say Perez. I'll give Ricciardo a few more races before evaluating him. In my opinion, Perez has the best team mate so therefore the hardest job, he has been doing a great job, especially in qualifying where Kobayashi seems to struggle. I would like to see him in the Ferrari to see what he could do against Alonso, at the minute I doubt he could beat him over the season but give it a few more years and he could be world champion.
3 of those drivers could possibly be world champion. This years rookie class far outweighs last years lot. Who was it last year, Hulkenberg, Petrov,Senna, Chandhok, Di Grassi.
If I was a team boss (I'm not), then I wouldn't be too disappointed with having Perez or di Resta in my team. Both have put in good and bad performances this year. But both have shown real promise half way through their rookie year.
I'm sure Paul Di Resta has a bright future in front of him, but (biased view) I think Perez has the brightest future ahead of him. Perez has been incredibly consistent and makes F1 cars look easy to drive. The kid has so much natural talent and potential. I'd love to see what he is capable of in a Ferrari, something which could easily become a possibility in the near future.
I voted Di Resta but i see a long term place in F1 for them all. (except for maybe D'ambrosio but im not dismissing him totally)
Well, Mercedes is keeping an eye on Di Resta, Red Bull is keeping an eye on Ricciardo and Ferrari is keeping an eye on Perez. They've all got futures but none of the bigger teams really notices Maldonado or D'ambrosio do they?
Maldonado has had some good press. If he keeps up the good work and consistently improves I'm sure he'll be noticed.
Out of all these rookies I would say Di Resta would become a world champion before the others, but who will be the most successful out of the lot, it would be Perez in my opinion. Give the kid another 2-3 years in F1 and watch Ferrari take multiple WCC and 1 or 2 WDC between them.
Di Resta for me. I think since Jackie Stewart, British drivers have lacked technical input and understanding, and that's why we haven't had a multiple world champion since the days of Stewart, Clark and Hill. Di Resta seems very intelligent though, I imagine his feedback to be very good and I think he'd be very capable of driving development. Additionally he's very fast, he has a habit of losing his front wing, but as a rookie that's part of his job. Maldonado has really impressed me, very fast, very aggressive. In pure racing terms I think he's been the pick of the bunch this season, his qualifying performance in Spain was brilliant, wrestling a horrible car into Q3 when Rubens couldn't even get it out of Q1. In Monaco he was excellent as well. Perez seems a solid driver, but looks to me as if he lacks raw pace, and I can't help but question his mentality after he bailed in Montreal, especially with him being so young and less aware of his mortality than he's ever likely to be. It's a great group coming through this year, I think four of the five will definitely have decent length careers, and the fifth (D'Ambrosio) hasn't done too badly either.
I really don't know. There's no obvious dud among them but no obvious stand out either. I was thinking Perez but now I'm not so sure.
Good point about Di Resta's technical abilities. Being a test driver meant that he would have learnt a lot about set up, and doing the DTM may have sharpened his close contact skills, as dtm is heavily wheel to wheel.
Di Resta, all day long. Very impressed with him so far, he's very grounded but tenacious.Early days obviously, but he seems composed and level headed,I expect he'll be in a bigger/faster team sooner rather than later. Possible future WDC ?
