Off Topic The Rolling Stones at ABC Cinema Hull 1964

This just came up on Facebook.I was 5 years old.

 

I seem to remember seeing the (very early) Stoners in a pub in Beverley or York a little bit earlier than anybody had heard of them, then after this at Brid Spa. We took the Beatles, Searchers, Freddie and the Dreamers, The Animals, Gerry & the Pacemakers, etc., in our stride. Quite a lot of that generation appeared at the Gondola Club, Hull Uni, The Locarno, and so on. And now we've got all this Rap crap. What went wrong?

 

Isn't there a story that, as a bet, they tried to hitch-hick to this gig but, no one would pick them up....

I didn't know that girls screamed so much at the Stones. I thought it was only the Beatles who had their concerts ruined.

 

They all got screamed at in those days. Anyone with slightly longer hair than normal was in grave danger of being accosted by rampant females because they thought they must be in a band. Some ugly bastards never had it so good. .

 

First colour film of the Stones. Not long before this Brian Jones used that white Vox guitar for the first time in this country at Brid Spa.

 

It was staged for the film. Which is why there is a camera in the car filming as it goes by. It was just outside Brid. Though what they were doing there I don't know as they didn't follow the Brid appearance with Hull. In the weird and wonderful ways of tours then they went off somewhere else and then travelled miles back again.

 

I rememberbatbworksva few years ago someone lent a young lad a video of that programme. He was watching when his mother suddenly screeched out to stop. She had seen herself bouncing up and down going a bit mental. That's her in the leather coat. I don't think he saw her in the same light again.

 

Keith Richards said the girls wet themselves screaming that much at that concert he could smell it

 

Did Jagger borrow his trousers from Wallace and Gromit or did he mean to dance like that?

 

Some good stories and bands from this era, Beatles on Witham, the Stones at ABC, was the blue box there then? The Rats, The Who, Small Faces etc but I ****ing hate Gerry and the Pacemakers.

 

You can tell how Bill Wyman developed his special interest.

 

It's where the expression: "there wasn't a dry seat in the house" comes from.

 

There's the old debate in there, Beatles or Stones? If you had to choose one or the other, I reckon it would be 50/50.

 

I, for one, did OK...

 

Dear God.... I was there......... didn't even like the Stones that much but someone couldn't go and and I took the ticket.
