There is a lot of talk about who is the right person for the job with some disparaging comment from some (me included) about some of the names mentioned. However, on reflection, who are we to say who is going to be good for us. The ONLY judge of this is time and if there is a third certainty in life in addition to death and taxes, it is that as a football manager you will eventually get the sack, time being the only factor. There is talk of Nigel Pearson being the right man for the job and his experience in this division (and beyond) certainly fits the bill. He did also say on 5Live that he has managed in all 4 divisions so he knows what is required. Other names mentioned, Appleton in particular, have been strongly rejected by many (me included) as unsuitable and "the cheap option" however, I did not want Steve Cotterill anywhere near our club when we were in trouble but look how that turned out (last year)... There is also talk of Wade Elliott. Yesterday was one game BUT, it was a game where we exhibited a lot of qualities that we have hitherto not this season, these being the ability to change and adapt. It also revealed some players as being possibly much better than constant critics on here give them credit for. For me, Marlon Pack was EXCELLENT at West Brom, some of his passing was exquisite and it is not his fault that our rigid formation meant that players were not able to get to the ball. I suspect that we will now see a few previously rubbished players blossom when given some freedom to express themselves. I am not against Wade Elliott and JP getting the job to the end of the season, there would be a lot of positives however for that to succeed, we must ALL get behind them, come what may. There will be bumps on the way but only together will the club get stronger and frankly Wade gets this club and the need to build from within, the most recent interview on YouTube shows this. At the end of the day, only hindsight will dictate who is the right manager for us and as the financial warning goes, past performance is no guarantee of future success. Just because a manager is proven is no guarantee of success and vice versa. Lambert at Norwich in League One proved that and some of us hoped that McInnes would do the same but he was on a hiding to nothing with the club in a downward spiral with disinterested players knowing that they were on their way out. My former boss had a saying, "take the opportunity of a lifetime in the lifeftime of the opportunity" something he did and transformed the business he started in as a lowly clerk to something he sold for millions. Who is to say that someone like Wade or Appleton can't build something here, the only thing that ANY manager here needs is us behind them and then, anything is possible...
Big decisions coming down the pipe Prem and this one, above any other in our past, will tell us if the commitment is there from our management. It's time to walk the walk and tell the rest of the footballing world that we mean business. Will that happen, who knows with our lot?
