Now then.. seeing as we are talking about rainbow laces and hairy bottoms then thought I'd bring up this brilliant album..

Had this album a while by Elton John, never listened to it before tonight but what a professional this guy is. Through the headphones it's superb and takes me back to 2004 when I saw him at Newcastle arena. Piano playing at it's best but it's the whole thing that's just brilliant..

Will smile tonight through memories and words for my special ones..

Not a big EJ fan but once seen him do a song called "Magdalene". It was brilliant. Mind you Frank Zappa does a record of the same name. Its about incest but some canny guitar work on it.

Seen that too Gil, when we saw him I remember a 73 concert When he played with Bernie Taupin and he said, I only go when the light goes out over the piano. So some 32 years later we are in the metro arena and the punters are legging it at what they thought was the end of the gig and I'm shouting 'Sit down you ****ing Maggots' in the best possible taste, 'he ain't finished yet, the lights still on'.. But would these ****ing lemmings listen to me, no way, got some **** by the throat if memory serves me right but sat down eventually. Anyway he did come back, did 'Your Song' the epic finale, and 31 years apart from first seeing him in 73 the man is a music legend..

Wife and I saw him in Baku in 2006.

One of the lads came in the pub on a Friday night with a story that the Azerbaijani presidents wife had seen EJ playing in Dubai on one of her trips, and offered him a stupid amount of money to come over and do a one night stand. The tickets were about 100 Shivan each (£10).

We all thought it was a wind up, but for a tender was worth a shot.

Next night we all went to the local football stadium, took our seats, then he arrived on stage.

He belted out every hit from the old to his newer stuff for around 2 1/2hrs with two 15min breaks. A consummate professional and well worth £10.

He played Benny & The Jets, and Tiny Dancer - both favourites of mine - and it sounded excellent even thow he couldn't quite hit the notes anymore.

A raving bender he is, but hope he gets remembered for his songs!

PS - quietly confident of a victory today, with Catts and Ki in the middle.

I guess that's why they call it the blues mate? Good to read your posts and all the best to you and yours.

Can't see him without remembering a Two Ronnies sketch with Corbett doing "Elton Bog". :)
