So then, relegation is pretty much nailed on. What will the squad look like for life in league 1? . Personally I'd like to see Heaton, Baldock, Cunningham and Maloney stay. However I think wages may be an issue and also those players not wanting to play in league one. With FFP I suspect every senior player will be moved on, although will clubs want the likes of Fontain and Elliot? We may be stuck with them, but it's important we get rid of this under performing core. So if the slate was wiped clean, what youngsters will make the step up before we look to the transfer market? Certainly theres a couple, but not having watched the reserves/ development squad I dont know if any can make the grade. Where will new players come from? I'm guessing frees. SOD did well eith Bournemouth when there were few resources. I'm heartened by that at least.
Welcome Red Baron, looking forward to the buzz, we have good members, ignore our poor confused blue few, onward and upward......wiz..
Welcome Red Baron I agree with the players above you have listed to keep, They will be very good players in league 1 and we need to keep of what little quality we have. I must tell you now that I am a big fan of Elliott Others I would add to your list would be Kelly, Davies and Anderson. There is a thread on here at the moment on possible targets that we could pinch from other league 1 clubs. I think the way to go is to buy other clubs younger players who are performing now. Get them whilst there cheap
Welcome aboard, I am sure SOD will clear out the core of this side and rebuild it.To many over paid players thst are not interested in being here. Skuse Stead Both going back to the championship but SOD has a huge job on his hands, but i think he is up to it and wants to get the club back playing the Bristol City way.
I think Ryan Taylor will be a very important asset to us at league one level. The sort of striker we are going to need, if he can start hitting the net too he may well save us a few quid. I am confident we haven't seen his full potential yet. Kelly will also be a key player at that level.
Agree about Heaton, Cunningham, Baldock and Maloney Would also keep Marv, Kelly, Fontaine, Skuse, Taylor, Burns, Bryan, Reid. I would sell Albert and Davies Other outs - Kilkenny, Nyatanga, Wilson, Foster, Carey, Stead (unless wages were sorted), Gerkhin and Howard We need some leadership - somelike Shaun Derry and a big ugly centre-half who will attack the first ball (like Mcoombe did)
If I was "SO'D Pretend Head Coach" I would want the following in my squad for next season; Keepers; Heaton / Lewis Carey / plus one in Full backs; Moloney / Cunningham / plus one. I would not be averse to Richard Foster staying but firstly he is not by any means a favourite with the fans and also I suspect he'll prefer to go back to SPL. Centre backs; Nyatanga / plus three newcomers. I never thought I would say keep Lewin but I've been impressed with performance and attitude in last three months. Central midfield; Kelly / Reid / plus two in. Not sure about Elliott and Pearson but definitely don't want Kilkenny though I suspect my alter ego "SO'D Real Head Coach" will want to keep him. I also believe that a move would help Skuse's career. Wide Midfield; Anderson / Bryan who I believe will be more suited to this position as he gets a year or so older / Burns / Ajala. I suspect Albert will move on partly because of his ambition and the club will want to get a transfer fee for him before his contract runs out. Strikers; Davies / Taylor / Krans / Baldock / plus one in. I would think the rumour mill about Stead moving back to Huddersfield could have some basis. Whether all of these want to stay, whether "SO'D Real Head Coach" wants them all to stay, or those out of contract just disappear or the club wants some to go because of wages, is another matter. All will be revealed between now and the start of next season on Saturday August 3rd. Mark it in your diary chaps because it's important we all stick with them and help to get the side off to a flying start!
