You cantalk about great passing game, controlling the midfield, clinical finishing all you like. The only reason we won yesterday was a return of the black shorts! There I've said it. I think we would have drawn if we had white shorts.
it's got to be! Although if you listen to everyone else, it was because Norwich were bad, not because we were any good... Which brings me to another rant. I've heard no end of people I know tipping us for relegation, despite our win yesterday, citing lack of strikers. Cries of "where will the goals come from when Dempsey goes?". Um, why would you say that on the back of us scoring five in a single game, with no Demps? Of course, it's not indicative of our entire season, we won't win every game or even score in every game, but seriously, where has this come from? Last year we secured our (first ever) second successive top ten finish, our third in four years. We've played in Europe in two of the last three seasons, and reached a final, no less. I was listening to the City game on the radio earlier and afterwards a Southampton fan called in, saying "if we can beat the teams around us, like Reading, West Ham, Wigan, Fulham, we'll be laughing". What a joke! I don't think we'll be bothering the top 6, and if we finish in the top 8 we'll have done very well and it would be a massive achievement, but surely it's not so outrageous to think we'll be comfortably mid-table? Still over a week of the transfer window to go as well, and we've reason to be believe we'll get a couple more players in too. I think because we're a low-profile club, people don't know anything about us so they automatically think we're rubbish. Argh! Rant over. And sorry for the thread hijack, seemed a good place to vent
To be honest, I don't mind people underestimating us like that, Bidley. The more our success goes unnoticed, the less chance of the big fish starting to circle around our players. I won't be happy until the transfer window closes and I know that DemPele is still a Fulham player. I think he will be, though.
It's not so much being underestimated, it's being robbed of any credit for anything we do! But I'm with you, I'm happy to be under the radar and continue to "overachieve" if it means we get to keep our better players.
So true Craving, been my 'bette noire' for 12 months. This is the only contract in it's last year that I sincerely hope the Club let run it's course without extending,
