It’s been a very, very long wait but Town are finally in League action on Sunday. Finally we are playing for points that could see us regain our Championship status. With shiny new replica kit ready for its first outing, it’s vital that we hit the ground running and give ourselves a chance. Transfer activity has been disappointing to say the least. But as yet we haven’t lost any of our better players. Let’s have a bit more of a spark this season and continue the form of last weekend. I don’t think it’s right what’s happened to Wigan, and their squad has been decimated. But it’s all about the three points for Town. I’m going for 2-1 Town. COYB.
Not been following news from Wigan. I'd been assuming it's a very tough start. Cambridge and Arsenal Youth games keeping me pessimistic. On Sky too so I think we're looking at a 2-0 defeat. Lots of pretty play and possession but no cutting edge. Wigan goals will both arise from a lapse in concentration.
If Wigan's team is as depleted as the media say, then surely we should be breaking our TV hoodoo. In fact, i've just been on their website, and they only have 9 senior outfield players, and two of them are Garner and Gary Roberts (feck me, how old is he???) If we don't get anything other than a comfortable win, then it will extremely disappointing, even for us. Add to that we've only lost one opener in it least 10 seasons, i can see this being a breeze. I'm going to match the 3-0 result against Rovers, with sears getting another 2, and Nolan the other.
a bit like the game against Bolton last season, we need to get as many as possible to help with goal difference when the relegation battle hits at the end of the season
We have showed some promising creative signs pre-this ultra strange season, and the usual lapses, but with our attack looking stronger, and the expected departues of our more gifted players not happening, I see a welcome return to our noble game and a strong start...with the crowd lifting the rafters at PR with the noise!! 3-1 Town COYBs, give us another reason for living!
The team looks very slow to me, nothing in there to worry Wigan!! Only saving grace is.... Wigan are in turmoil atm!
Disappointed not to see wolfy and downes in the squad...surely not been bids for both? Worrying if that's the case... Bishop will be our saving grace if he stays fit...and also think Nolan could finally be the player I hoped he'd be for us. I'll still stick with my original 3 nil prediction
Defence looks a bit patchy, Wigan should’ve scored twice. But we’ve grown into the game - I’ve been very impressed with the midfield trio. Nolan looking a lot more confident, Dozzell making a range of accurate passes, and Bishop’s got his first league goal since 2014. Good hold up play by Drinan. Judge has been anonymous and both Chambers and Nsiala making me nervous whenever they’re on the ball.
Judge....why? Not a fan of Sears either tbh, greedy and wasted two great opportunities from free kicks
This second half has been a drag, we’re bypassing midfield with long balls in the channels and struggling to create anything (sound familiar?) Thankfully, a nice bit of midfield play by Huws and Nolan creates an opening for Judge, who drills an accurate ball across and Norwood to squeeze the ball for Edwards to convert. Thankfully we got that second, surely killed the game off?
Good win, although they should’ve scored at least once. Ward, Bishop, Nolan, Dozzell, and Edwards (when he came on) all had good games.
Weird as eff watching a game from Portman Road on TV,no atmosphere ,game had the feel of a pre Season friendly but at least we got the result.Feels very much like the start of last Season though, better teams than Wigan will find us out.
Managed to watch the second half. Glad to be able to watch (part of) a game live and see us come away with victory. But. Wasn't overly impressed, for a team in turmoil Wigan looked very much our equals. Midfield seemed to be completely by passed. Defence looks fragile though going forward we look more inventive than seasons gone by. Low bar I know and there still seems to be as sense of surprise that we get through the defence. Couple of opportunities to break I counted were passed up because support took a while to arrive. But I think I'm being overly critical Not reading too much into game or performance. 3 key players (KVY, Downed and Woolfenden) to hopefully come back into contention
