Performances against Bournemouth - Elliot - considering some comments made last week had a very sound game, one very good double save, seems to save his best games for Bournemouth (7.5/10) Solly - seemed to want to get forward a lot, made the first goal, AFCB seemed to target him again but withstood most of what was aimed at him and was caught out once or twice being too far forward which is not a sin (7/10) Taylor - seems to have built a good understanding with Morrison already, steady (7.5/10) Morrison - he and Taylor handled Ings well, came forward with ball well when given the opportunity, won most in the air although credit to AFCB they played very little in the air (8/10) Wiggins - a shaky start, had the better of the two wingers to mark but came into the game after about 30mins also had one very good long shot which had it gone in would have been better than Waggy's (6.5/10) Waggy - had a much better game than most when he starts, again could not take on his full back on the outside but was often doubled marked which is a credit to him, very very good goal (6.5/10) Hollands - hard working ball winner and harrier, played simple balls and kept chasing the whole 94mins (7.5/10) Stephens - heart of the team (future captain?) won ball, harried, passed, scored goal with precise finish (9/10 MoM) Jackson - also worked hard, came into centre midfield perhaps too much and seems to be playing a Nicky Baily role of a goalscoring left midfielder rather than an out and out left winger (7/10) Hayes - cleaver and controlled link up play but can see more coming from him as he settles in (7/10) BWP - understanding with Hayes does not seem there yet but that will come, defenders still have to mark him tight because they know 'one chance one goal' (7/10) Subs Pritchard - a very good contribution, one good attacking run and cross to Jackson and an excellent block towards the end (7.5/10) Benson - ran around, tried his best but not much time (not fair to mark) Doc - even less time (not fair to mark) Managers - Chris - team seemed prepared well and good formation (8/10) Alex - I would have liked the substitutions made earlier, bringing Doc on for BWP seemed a bit negative to me in a match we had won by then (6.5/10)
Elliot - 8 Solid game from Robbie... probs only a 7 but being a Goal Keeper always going to be bias being a member of the goal Keeper's Union Solly - 7.5 Always wanting the ball, liked to get forward, Last season I said Francis was the better going forward, Solly seemed better defending, Solly better all round yesterday when what I saw last year, made a superb tackle in the 2nd half and the 1st goal credit should be down to him more then most. Taylor - 7.5 Seemed solid with Morrison, a lot better then last season, will be interesting to see what they'd cope like with a 4-4-2 rather then one up front Morrison - 7.5 Same as above, had a decent chance from the corner in first half but other then that, same as Taylor really Wiggins - 7 Bit iffy at first sliced a few shots, but had a great strike well saved, was much better as time went on. Waggy - 8 Superb strike and was confident when running, seems to have matured from last season, opposition left back seemed solid though able to hold Waggy off Hollands - 7.5 Solid, simple as, seemed a bit in the back ground in my opinion but that was surely down to Stephens being superb, good solid game Stephens - 9.5 Absolutely brilliant was incredible don't think he did a poor pass all day. He scored of course, set up Waggy, played in BWP in first half when the keeper came right out, was superb man of the match without doubt and if that's his debut when you're meant to be nervous can't wait for more! Jackson - 7.5 As usual doesn't seem to appear much and then just pops out of nowhere with a goal or a bit of class, most play from us was down the middle or the right though so he had a quite game. Solid penalty though no one would save it and he did show a few glimpses of what we missed end of last season. Hayes - 7 Impressed me hard working, still as usual with Charlton target men a few miss timed jumps for headers. Had a good chance in 2nd half he should have scored but oh well, interesting to see between him and Benson and if Powell signs another striker BWP - 7 Think he's poor outside the box (but class inside) and didn't really appear in much of the game but he did do some vital things such as the assist to Stephens and the penalty so 2 assists, maybe 7 is a bit harsh but I just didn't see a lot of him, our match was won by our midfield. Overall great performance no point marking the subs had very little time, but great performance and more of the same, got money on us to win promotion this year
Elliot - 8/10 (Seemed to me as though he wanted to prove he's our No.1 GK) Solly - 7/10 (One of our more consistant youngsters to come through the YTS in recent years for me, gives his all and like Chris Perry a few years back his height doesnt let him down - Did more yesterday for me than Francis all season) Morrison - 7/10 (Looked a little slow getting back at one point though didnt really notice him much through the game, probably because of my poor eyesight, passed the ball well though) Taylor - 7/10 (Again see above for Michael Morrison, think the two look good together and both put their bodies in the way of the ball more than once) Wiggins 7.5/10 (Started poorly due to the AFCB fans IMO though grew into the game and nearly scored a "worldie" - looks and good signing and is well worth the money) Wagstaff 7/10 (Disappears far too often, scored a cracker of a goal and made some good runs in the second half - Will be interesting with competition from Green though can see Waggy as very effective from the bench as we've seen before) Hollands 7/10 (Very tidy passed the ball well great acquisiton for a Freebie - much better than Semedo for me) Stephens 9/10 (Great goal / Great passing, doesnt try anything stupid and is already a Fan Favourite for me - Is another one who is more than adequate as a replacement for Racon) Jackson 7/10 (Again disappeared a bit too much / found him drifting into the middle a bit as well at times which could leave Wiggins exposed, though also saw him drop back into Defense at one point to increase bodies at the back) BWP - 7/10 (Didnt do anything in my books apart from winning the penalty though he's a poacher so unless he scores he always will go un-noticed) Hayes 7.5/10 (As per a comment earlier Hayes is a stronger version of Benson, only saw one poor touch all game and linked up the Midfield with Attack efficiently - not expecting a massive amount of goals from him but if he helps others I dont care) SUBS Pritchard - N/A (Nice little cameo, maybe we'll see a start against Reading but I thought he looked a nice tidy player - Maybe the first time we'll see a Non-League signing work in our favour rather than being constantly loaned out) Benson - N/A (Didnt do anything than anyone didnt already know about - Was concerned how he lunged in at one point though, wouldnt be surprised to see a few more Reds for him if that continues) Doherty - N/A (Didnt have long enough to make an impression)
Agree with what you say Ted i.e. the match was won from our Midfield - Was kinda nice for a change as time after time in the last few years our Midfield has gone walkies, and thats what'll make all the difference this year
Agree pretty much verbatim with AllHell Bringing on subs late isn't really a problem if the team is functioning so well.
