Having read the recent boards on the BBC regarding the Hooper transfer, it is apparent just how many people seem to have a problem with the R's. While I can put some of it down to jealousy, I fail to see how we have inspired such hatred. Its ok for Cardiff to offer 12m for Ince and Norwich to spen 8.5m on Van Wolfscock - but when we look to spend 5m it is met with howls of derision. Are we really that unpopular?
It's all bulls**t, frankly. Ever since the media tagged us as 'big-spending Queens Park Rangers' all the sheep have simply jumped aboard and decided that they hate QPR because we've spent some money. The so-called experts are just as bad though, as they all repeat the same nonsense too. Somehow - and HR's comments about Boswinga's wages are partly to blame - we've had a persona created for us and it's stuck, however truthful or accurate it may be. A friend from work hoped we would go down because of all the money we'd spent! I had to explain to him that prior to January our record fee was about 8-9 milliion.
I think that it is the obscene money we have offering players to come to little old QPR. That strategy has certainly paid off, not!
Not noticed it myself, my non Rs supporting mates have pity rather than 'hate'. The type of person who spends his/her time spouting bile about other clubs on the interweb probably has far greater problems than QPR to be honest.
It wasn't even that true when we got that reputation originally. Yes, we were spending way to much on salaries but until Lan 13 we hadn't spent that much on transfer fees themselves. Samba and Remy was a last throw of the dice and even they had limited downside judging by the way we returned Samba.
I think there were a number of idiots last year talking about the Champions League etc, that would wind a few visiters up, we are getting payback for that. I however see it as a good sign that other clubs in the prem still wish to visit us, your welcome guys.
Not too sure if Norwich supporters will be,although we were chasing Hooper back in January. The problem went back to before the start of last season when a contingent of your lot were giving it large that we were for the drop and R's were top six material.
That goes back to Faurlingate CT when some Norwich fans (not all) were calling for a points deduction.
The general perception is that it is acceptable for Premier League clubs to splash cash considering they can justify it (TV Income of £60m+ this season for 20th place), whereas QPR are funding it through debt or rather TF's pockets (TV Income in Championship is pretty minimal in comparison and parachute payments are intended to help cushion the blow of having to continue to pay high wages). Fair play if you spend your way to promotion though! Ince for 12m is a joke, when we picked up Redmond for 3.5m... In the minds of the neutrals, Hooper's choice was between higher wages or premier league football (and potential international call-up for world cup). No brainer really! Anyway, who is to say he would play regularly for you, after all Remy-the-alleged-rapist is your current preferred striker, no?
I don't think it's all about the money you allegedly spent. I don't think the media helped you by building you up to be the next best thing in the premier league, replacing most of your core players who got you up to the PL with has been players. NCFC and Swansea did it the right way and are both now gradually strengthening their squads, QPR tried doing it all too soon which also didn't help your reputation in my honest opinion. I'm sure in the Championship you will get rid of the deadwood and rebuild and will bounce back, and learn from your mistakes.
Nobody got anywhere being liked 100%. Goes with the territory I guess. So what! Hating is a waste of time (unless its Chelski ).
You pretty much nailed it. A small number of morons (which, sadly, included a number on the QPR payroll) ran their mouths before the club could walk, as it were. Appointing 'Arry has not helped people move on from that.
A few did that, but the usual suspects really. It doesn't explain the Swansea,Saints etc who were more at odds with QPR than we were.
Christ what a surprise, canaries here lording it again with their 'we're a debt free club aren't we brilliant' manifesto
