Anyone else agree with what Strachan and Southgate have just said? Harry says Cole ain't happening, the Chairmans working on 2 others...and relax!
Harry said he hasn't spoken to Kenny, and Cole is a Liverpool player 'at the moment' - BIG difference to 'ain't happening'
Tell you what PNP, ask DB what they said, (I'd love to hear it from him!) he clearly saw it, otherwise he wouldn't know what Harry said. He's chose not to comment on it either...odd!
Was this regarding the strict wage structure and how difficult it would be for us to strengthen on what we already have, without spending mega bucks?
Spot on Roo, and that its not about spending out on one player, its keeping the rest happy improving their salaries that will cost Spurs. Also keeping Modric sends a message...for a change!, and it has to be the likes of Ade or better, to improve on what we have, we can't rely on keep finding 'Berbatov's'.
yeah i saw it Notso. I did agree with them at the time and thought they put the message across well. I know there's people on here who feel strongly about that point. However, I did some thinking (i know, don't feint) after the show. I posted this in another thread. They stated how its "very very difficult for us to get top talent that will improve us, considering what we already have". if we were to find those people "it's cost us a lot of money" and would "not meet our wage demands". - (quotes from last night, or as good as) technically, this isn't 100% true. Luka Modric was signed for 16.5 mill. none of us had much idea about him at all. we'd all heard that he was a class act abroad that had a huge future ahead of him. it was the same with Sandro, with a price tag of 9-12mill on his head, also. (please correct me if i'm wrong with that) this made me realise that there are real quality players out there that we are capable of getting that won't break the wage barrier and that we have no excuse to try this tactic with new players. Luka and Sandro have turned out to be superb signings. At the end of the day, we had a "punt" based on some careful due diligence. it's not like players like this suddenly don't exist anymore, and we could do with a couple of other players that fit the bill, by using the previously adopted method. this made me realise that attracting talent to improve our squad and even our first team, isn't "nearly impossible" as Strachan and Southgate stated. I see where people are coming from regarding the wage structure and paying over the odds, but we've brought in some brilliant signings in the past, so how is this suddenly not possible? there's loads of foreign players that would love a move to the premiership, and would settle for wages that don't break us financially. I'd love us to sign Leandro Damiao to prove this point. not because i want to say "told you so". but just so people will stop writing us off, when our previous activity has actually been very clever. Damiao is no different to Luka or Sandro, we've been monitoring him for a long time. so bugger it, let's have a go for 16mill. I hope Levy pulls of another cracker. I really believe this could be the case with a few other players out there too.
