I can tell you that a lot of Portugese people still believe her parents were to blame, they are wrong though.
Once when I was on holiday with my mum and brother, we found a little girl about 3 years old in an alleyway crying her eyes out. We eventually tracked down her mum in the pub across the road. My mum had a right go at her then the girl's mum said something like "don't tell me how to bring up mychildren". They had quite a row but it's safe to say the girl's mum was totally embarrassed and shamed in front of a pub full of people. Could have been another Maddie. Don't leave young children on their own and go out drinking.
They deserve to suffer the rest of their lives. I can't believe they left the kids at all, but the fact that they left them the previous night - only to come back and find Maddie upset and scared - and still did it the following night shows how irresponsible and callous they were. Anybody can make a mistake/misjudgement once (though I think 99.9% of parents wouldn't do something so negligent), but to do it again beggars belief.
He wouldn't have taken her if she'd not been left alone. If you left your car open, with the keys in the ignition, would you be partly to blame if it was stolen? Of course you would. Part of a parent's job is to protect his/her child. The McCanns failed spectacularly.
I remember going to Butlins years ago, lots of people used to leave their kids in the Chalets at night because they had a Chalet Patrol. You could be sitting in a club and an announcement would come up saying "Baby crying in Chalet 10" (or whatever). I dare say it still goes on, plenty of people have left their kids in an apartment on holidays, it does not make them bad people. If their child had been snatched then of course they would be partly responsible, but not necessarily to Blame. The McCanns have been pilloried for their behaviour but it was hardly child abandonment or neglect. My personal opinion is that they made a terrible error of judgement and although some blame can be laid at their door, it serves no purpose to consistently blame them when you consider what they are going through. They have been punished enough over the last 6 years and finger pointing or the blame game does not help anyone. I may have done the same as they did, I suspect many would.
Fair enough. I still think you're being more charitable than they deserve, but we'll have to agree to disagree.
