1) They made an £11.8 million loss last season (and apparently are forecast to do the same this time around) 2) Maynard can't have failed to have seen our signings / ambition 3) Bristol maintain that they don't want to sell to another Championship club ast hey want to push for promotion themselves - yet they don't seem to have added significantly to a team that finished in the bottom half last season and the disparity between 'haves' and 'have nots' is greater with the likes of Brum and west Ham coming down with parachute payments 4) If Maynard refuses to sign a new contract he walks for nothing this time next year Have a lot of sympathy for their fans but I get the impression that the club are doing a "we did everything to keep him" whilst actually they are are just posturing to achieve the best price they can get. Time will tell.
If your Nicky Maynard he might of though all this talk of money here is just hot air. Now we have spent 5M on 1 player and are paying Nugent and Mills 25K each he may now realise we are the real deal and want to join what Sven is building. Bristol have basically said if Maynard doesnt sign a new deal he will be sold but they are doing everything they can to keep him. I think if we offer them the same deal we offered Reading yesterday i think Nicky Maynard would be a Leicester player very very soon. The Matt Mills deal was completed in less then a day, how rare does that happen, a big name transfer complete from start to finish in a day
he should thank us...we have probably doubled his salary....over night...when he hardly kicked a ball for one season...if he doesn't instigate a move at 5 mill we should walk away...that buys alot of quality in this market...his loss and both his and their boards mistake....if it doesn't happen, this missed chance for bristol city will come back to haunt them..... im not convinced he is 100% fit at 5 million...
But it also works for us as well, buying him for £5-8m may avoid us fighting through the play-offs and getting an automatic spot instead.
Don't think maynard is worth £5m at all, regardless of the situation. Unproven fitness, a year to go on his contract, that price is lunacy. There are plenty, plenty of other players we could go for who have the potential to be just as good, if not better.
There are always players with potential, but the thing with potential is it means you haven't proved anything yet. Waghorn has the potential to be better than Maynard arguably, but would you trust him to lead the line this season?
