Or he played the ball deliberately passed the defender and then let the defender, who had stupidly committed himself, slide into him

For what it's worth I think Shane went down, but in a split second there is an argument to say that it was clever play by Shane and the defender got bloody lucky for **** defending.

Some seem to be referring to the Long penalty incident as being not worthy of being considered a penalty, simply because he had lost control of the ball and it was going out of play. I don't get this reasoning.
When a player takes a heavy touch anywhere on the pitch, that would entail the player losing possession of the ball, you don't ignore any "potential" foul play simply because the player has lost control of the ball.
The actual incident was yet another that, on another day, with a different ref, it would have been given and there wouldn't have been many complaints.

Am I the only one who thinks that Ryan Giggs being touted as the next Swansea manager is insane? He has little to no experience of managing at any level but because he's a big footballing name so many people are assuming that he can step up to managing a struggling Premiership club. Swans is my second (and almost local team) and I think it'll be a disaster if he steps in if Guidolin is sacked :emoticon-0106-cryin

I think a suspended ban would have been more appropriate, would give him a chance to show he's changed, but still have a small punishment.
