Not Prem, but Torino v Roma tonight. Are we still second best defence in Europe? Maybe Torino's goalkeeper can slot one in to even it up.

Wait, Lille have also conceded 4 but in 11 games :( But they are playing Monaco! It's on.

Right lets clear this up. When you give a free kick and intend to caution someone, the law states: "Once the referee has decided to issue a card, whether to caution or send off a player, play must not be restarted until the sanction has been administered." So Atkinson was spot on.
Well ok I wasn't aware of that, but frankly that's a daft rule that should be changed. If you can book a player after an advantage is played, there's no reason you can't allow a quick free-kick to be taken before a card is shown.

The rule's there to prevent referees from forgetting to go back and caution the player or not getting the number of the player. Remember the laws of the game apply to all levels, at grassroots level it would be much more difficult to go back and caution a player. And unless there is a clear advantage, referee's are recommended to stop play and caution the player instantly.

All removing that rule would mean is the referee has discretion, like with the advantage rule. I can't see how the danger of missing who the offender was is any higher than for a normal advantage.

Not surprisingly Riether is the first person to be charged under the FA's new slightly relaxed retrospective punishment rules.

#SaintsFC's trip to face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday 18th January 2014 has been brought forward to a 12:45pm kick-off and will be screened live on BT Sport.

For anyone that's interested.

Everton's manager has suggested that teams should get an extra sub if a player has to go off with concussion. How is that different from a player having to go off with a broken leg for instance? You could still have to go down to 10 men if you'd used your subs already. Don't know what he's going on about.

I like Martinez, he's a good manager but he's make himself look like a massive idiot there.
