They say that a certain smell or a piece of music can bring back strong memories of the past and I remember my first match at the Dell when they seemed to be playing at every opportunity Ride a White Swan by TRex. Now I can't hear that song without immediately feeling I am on the terracing at the Dell surrounded by noisy and irksome Arsenal fans and watching my very first Saints game. Does anyone else find that a piece of music has the same effect for them?
Kings and Queens - 30 Seconds to Mars: JPT Final, 2010. On anther note, the thing of which you talk: relating music to experiences is called 'positive anchoring', obviously 'negative anchoring' if it's bad times you're reflecting on.
This is kind of embarrassing but I'm gonna share it with the group. The song 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight' always reminds me of a fantastic family holiday in Majorica when I was a nipper. It was that years big summer song and was played every night in the hotel entertainments complex.
Good post, Godders. Certain theme tunes make me smile ... The Argentine Melody ... Great World Cup in 78 Sportsnight ... Countless League Cup Replays on muddy pitches On the terraces ... Loved singing "Here we go, here we go, here we go" back in the 80's And finally ... "Rio" by Duran Duran, always reminds me of when Saints destroyed Man City in a League Cup tie back in the 80's at The Dell. I took a friend to the match, and it was the only song he sang along to, when it was played during the interval! Obviously I didn't take him again. Great match ... 4-0. Got back home just in time to watch it all over again.
Is that the one played in the torrential rain? I had to work that evening but my wife and several children went and I picked them all up after the match and they were soaked to the skin having stood on the Milton Road End exposed to the elements.
whenever I hear the ringing of a handbell, I immediately feel sick, and have an irrational hatred of smelly drunken tattooed men in blue. That, is the power of music.
Yes, Godders! Here you go ...
1973 Summer The First Time Bobby Goldsboro, I was on holiday in Weymouth, very apt! I'll leave the rest to your imagination http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRN96LU61kk
