I’ve only ever called the emergency services once, a few years ago when I found that dead bloke in the park. I’ve had plod knocking on my door a couple of times though, and have dragged myself and others to A&E more times than I care to remember. The problem is that if you mention the right buzz words you will generally get an ambulance….and the regulars know that
It’s beyond me what these dickheads think an emergency is. They are a spectacular combination of selfishness and stupidity. Can the numbers that these frequent flyers call from be highlighted and then simply ignored or blocked? I know the answer of course….
Hopefully the consequences of not giving the ambulance staff and nurses a decent pay rise and review of working conditions are filtering through, though the media isn’t helping and Barclay seems to want to insult any union member rather than talk. The government might ultimately ‘win’ and buy people off with some promises about next year or future deals, but the result will be many more people simply leaving the NHS and even the clinical professions entirely, thus making a health service which is pretty obviously in a state of collapse anyway crumble even faster, as already stressed staff get even higher anxiety by worsening working conditions. Decent pay and proper career progress make people happy to stay in the professions they have been expensively trained for, help recruit new people and reduce the need for agency staff and recruiting abroad.
It’s ****ing blindingly obvious. So much so that I suspect that Sunak wants the NHS to collapse so he can impose some hideously corrupt private system instead. I’m all for reform and change in the NHS which is obviously in need of it, but not along ideological lines.
