an offensive word for someone whose opinions are very right-wing (= supporting the political right), used mainly about White men who are middle-aged (= from about 45 to 60 years old):
He's just an old gammon stuck in the past.
What an unpleasant bunch of angry, dim-witted gammon they are.

Right, so if you read the two together, it's a derogatory term referring to the facial skin of white men who hold right wing views

It's based on skin colour and tone, in the same way that racial abuse against some black people is based on skin colour and tone

I don't. I'm just pointing out that those who use the term gammon are abusing someone based partly on their skin colour. Which doesn't make them much better than racists that have a go at people of colour for the tone of their skin. Both have something in common.

I don't know what colour your skin is Goldie, but I'd describe you as gammon nonetheless.

I don't have a fair skin, I'm dark hair and don't have a particular problem with the sun. But if I was a black person, you wouldn't use that term of abuse against me (even if you say you would now). So at least, it has racial undertones. And that gives licence to racists to use similar terms against black people.

This has suddenly turned into a fantastically entertaining thread again.

Here’s an example from the urban dictionary to keep the ball rolling - gammonflake!

Brian went "gammonflake", shouting with anger and going red in the face when the "Black Lives Matter" lesbian couple in his local bar said they understood why the slave owner's statue was pulled down and dumped in the water. "They're destroying our culture when they pull these statues down, he's a hero, patron and philanthropist of our city" ranted Brian as he slammed his fists on the table and split everyone's beer.

To me, it's more about attitudes than skin colour. The black Tory that stood for London Mayor is a gammon, so is Priti Patel. You just can't see them turning red when they get all jingoistic.

An especially sensitive Gammon who is easily hurt or offended by the statements or actions of others or by a wide range of topics.

Basically an extra FRAGILE Gammon.

Gamflakes often like to call others Snowflakes, which is ironic considering how sensitive they are themselves.

Gamflakes tend to be right wing or conservative and tend to get annoyed by the arguments of more intelligent lefties.

Gamflakes tend to get extremely upset and emotional over a wide variety of topics such Islam, Immigrants, LGBT, Greta Thunberg, Vegans, Climate Change, Liberals, Antifa, The Left, Intellectuals, Experts, Feminism etc... The list is endless.
