If Putin was behind all that there are some basic questions I fail to grasp:(1) Why use gas and not a pistol ? (2) Why one week before presidential elections (where Putin apparently has a large majority). I personally link it to the latest Trump substitution of Tillerson and Putin's declaration of having replaced the long range missiles with new undetectable ones. Are we about to see something happening in Syria ?

1. A gun can be fired by anyone. Nerve agent is a signature saying who it was and sending the message, we don't care where you are.
2. Answers itself... One week before an election says it all.

As Ellers says, plus the fact, made by Ken Clarke in Parliament today, that Putin likes to choose the most painful death possible as a deterrent. You can use security to defend yourself against someone with a gun. But if you can die just by touching the handle of your BMW car, that will send the sh*ts up ex-pat Russians everywhere. Russia has become a rogue state run by a gangster and surrounded by the mafia. It's frightening

Here we are looking into espionage

So a couple of the many thousand killings have made the mainstream. Honestly does anyone on here actually that the service lines behind any of this activity care one bit

These acts imo usually are placed in the public eye for another reason

Pussy Galore I believe now works for Ryanair

Honestly a TV week in the news in the U.K. is becoming worse than a soap opera . Plus after it we are greeted by a couple of weather forecasts presented by people clearly on MDMA

The thing which worries me is that TM. has now provoked a stand off in which nobody wants to lose face. To start throwing accusations and ultimatums around, and then expel diplomats based only on some circumstantial evidence is like burning all your bridges behind you. Why are we not allowing the Russians the samples which they desire ? There are many other possibilities here, other than a direct action endorced by the Kremlin - which are probably more likely. How can the Russians prove their innocence - are they required to do so ? To do this they would need access to the relevent materials. I would say that the onus is on us to prove their guilt, rather than the other way around. The problem is that with the escalating situation we have now, can the truth come out at all ? If the Russian government were to 'prove' their non complicity in this - would it be reported accurately ? Would there be an official apology from the British Government ? If ever we needed proof of the inadequacy of the British government, we are seeing it now - there is not a trained statesman amongst them.

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said on Wednesday the United States believes Russia is responsible for a chemical attack in Britain on a former Russia double agent and his daughter, and the U.N. Security Council should take action.

The UK ambassador to the UN has announced tonight that the UK will put all the evidence against Russia before the Security Council so all members can see it incl Russia. They won't get into a dialogue with Russia this time because in the Litvinenko case, Russia spun out proceedings for years before ultimately refusing to extradite the alleged killer

I thought that but 3 months is too short a time to organize. Shame because Russia only got the tournament through corruption in FIFA.
The only thing is if we Boycott first we'll be accused of sour grapes because we never got it. I still think we should pull out though. **** em

There comes a point when you have to stand up to bullies. In the case of this lot we passed that point about 7 million miles ago. You can't negotiate with them - well not in my experience anyway.

Russia may be a world power (Military) but they are far from a World player. Goldie is spot on when he said
Russia has become a rogue state run by a gangster and surrounded by the mafia
I would not be frightened of Russia in fact, I would have gone further. TM was too cautious. We do have the power financially to stop him in his tracks. I am also confident at the support from the UN/NATO and others comes in that Russia will go quiet, like it has done in the past.

For future, we need to make sure we keep our strong links with the US and the EU. We need to protect our borders but most importantly we have let our military shrink in size and power. Many of the military brass have said that we are not in a position to be a frontline force. Putin believes in strength and power and if we have a better military than him (not size) then he will think twice of doing stuff like this. I really hope we have learned a lesson from this.
