Yeah, he should have just knelt on her neck for a while.
Both incidents are wrong and both cops should be prosecuted imo
Surely, it's the fault of the woman, who should have not been trying to get into the Senate building in the first place. Peaceful protest could have been achieved by a large gathering outside, chanting their beliefs. It is not the fault of the officer who was just doing his job.
She was unarmed. Do you shoot people for trespassing?
When it’s the senate I’d have thought so.
There's a video going around of the incident. The shooter is in plain clothes - so presumably internal security - and is behind a barricade that the woman is climbing over. There are uniformed police behind her.
It's a bit more than just trespass, wouldn't you say?
If it's clear she's unarmed, what kind of threat did she represent to the security guards and cops? Ask yourself if she would have been shot dead by doing the same thing in Parliament. She'd have been tasered.
And the US psycho policing may have created a martyr for the extreme right , which no one needs right now
Are you aware some of the people were found to be carrying explosives after storming the government building, others fully armed I think they should count themselves lucky the death count was so low, remember it was a government building with the president elect inside, so therefore an act of terrorism.
I'm not aware of the full facts re the explosives and arms. I heard mention at the time, but I don't know how reliable the reporting was. Even so, if it is clear the dead woman herself posed no threat, using a live round is overkill imo
She shouldn't have been there simple!
As everyone knows in the US, police officers and security officers are readily armed. If you don't want to be shot at, don't break the law. That said, it was a needless death and peace be upon her soul.
Attacking anywhere that houses the President, or indeed in this country, the PM, carries a very real threat of lethal force being carried out.
They should all have been aware of that.
Having said that, the President would have been contained in the safe room bunker immediately.
Even so, it's likely to result in people being shot.
I do wonder whether there'd be so much support for the security guys on here had the protestors been democrats.
bro we've been hearing this since the days of the independence vote she lost.
Change the record will ya
of course your going to be right. Here's a prediction, Boris will lose his support in 100 years time
I imagine even US cops are required to use no more than reasonable force. I agree the death was needless. Only in America...
This is phenomenal logic.
In ordinary circumstances, I would absolutely agree that tasers should be used rather than lethal force, but these were not ordinary circumstances. If she had successfully climbed the barricade, dozens of others could have followed and you can't taser multiple people at once. These people could legitimately be described as terrorists in my eyes, would you have objected to the shooting if they were Al-Qaeda?
I think it will come out that security followed their training; protect the elected officials by getting them to safety. The only persons permitted to carry weapons inside the Capitol Building is security.
If that same woman had wandered into the building alone or with a small group and caused a scene, she would have been restrained and removed. The same woman appearing in front of a phalanx of agitated hotheads that broke windows and unlawfully entered the Capitol Building must be treated differently.
Make no mistake, that mob was out of control and presented a clear and present danger to Members of Congress. If you are advocating the violent overthrow of the duly elected government, you have committed treason.
nope, only if there were wearing a turban and shouting alluha akhbar!
It's a shame she died but invading congress with a bunch of other armed members it doesn't surprise me that security has overreacted to what they perceive as danger.
I don't think it would happen in the UK as people don't go running into the house of parliament with semi automatic guns and pipe bombs but i suspect it could happen if that was ever a scenario one day.
You can't compare them with Al Qaeda. As far as I know, none of them set out to physically harm anyone. I haven't heard or seen proof that any of the protestors used any arms
You have it wrong. The outgoing Republican President was the one agitating the mob.
He was never in danger and only meekly commented on the situation.
For a time he refused to send the National Guard and it was only until the Vice-President sent them in that the situation resolved.
people get shot for being mouthy let alone forcing there way into their equivalent of the house of parliament with guns and bombs.
