    Hull City fan in peace...
what is it with the ****ing police?
have they ever issued an apology for what they did/didn't do on that day in 1989?

  2. Issuing an apology would be accepting responsibility.

Something's happened/happening with respect to Hillsborough today, but I can't remember what.

apparently it has been discovered that the police edited a lot of evidence.

  5. There are another 74 edited statements to go with the previous reported 164. Plus there are suggestions that the police edited video footage too.

The worst part is we will never know the true extent of the cover-up. Far more powerful political forces have already shown that this goes beyond a football tragedy. This is evidence that the police force is corrupt. Of course everyone knows but this is proof. It would never do for the whole truth to come out.

I'm sure this is but a scratch on the surface of what happened that day. Still it is a start and will help the victims families find some consolation. That's always a good ideal to strive for.

I'm not sure you can ever get any consolation from what the police did.

Maybe consolation was a bad word to use. Obviously there won't be justice for the victims, not the kind of justice they deserve, but seeing the guilty parties found responsible for their actions is some sort of justice nonetheless.

I still don't think we'll ever know what really happened that day - it would be much too damning of both Thatcherism and the modern day perception of the police. At this stage I just want the families to get any closure they can. They deserve more than that but I'm pessimistic about the "truth" coming out.

  10. Whether we do eventually find out 100% of the details or not, it has been that much of an shambles that the public won't ever believe all the the details have been released.

I think the complete truth will come out eventually once all parties involved in the cover up are no longer part of the system and have gained some sort of protection. I don't agree with them being able to gain protection but that's how it will be IMO. the only question is, what will last longer, these inconsiderate arseholes staying in their jobs or the families fight?

I'm a pessimist. There is no such thing as a complete truth when it comes to government. Someone sat down somewhere and decided what the public wanted to hear and what they needed to hear. Certain details will be omitted, such as Thatcher's involvement or the involvement of her government.

It wouldn't do for the public to know too much. If they did they would question the methods of authority - many of which you still see today.

No, we will be fed a watered down, more emotional version of events where police officers acted independently due to incompetent training. And we will be given apologies about how the government is at fault for that - (they are) but that will cover up the true involvement of the guilty parties.

I just wish there was a way around it.

That's true mate, you won't hear a word on Thatcher's direct involvement nor the governments
