I'm just a tad confused over the pointing of loaning out players. Basically the principal of loaning out players is for them to get first team action, and this is usually done in teams in the lower leagues and is usually what everyone involved in a club thinks. However, what is the actual point? From what I am reading about players on loan when they do well is "they need to show this at a higher level before they can play for us" yet at the same time talking about current squad members going out on loan to get this experience (prime example Nile Ranger) before coming back to the squad.

    Examples

    1) Forster - has had two seasons now on loan, started off in League 1 (being their player of the season and winning the league title) before going on to Celtic (playing in front of fanatical support) and vastly improving himself as a goalkeeper - so what was the point of this? To raise funds? So that we can sell him? So that he becomes a better player to come back into our squad?

    2) LuaLua - was written off by most fans from what I can see but had a great time at Brighton before giving way to injury, yet people now are saying he merits a place in the sqaud next season - whats the difference between him and Forster then?

    3) Kadar - sent on loan but again hampered by injury - but what was the point of his loaning - what is it to gain valuable experience (but as people suggests with Forster then its not high enough quality), to put him in the shop window? Will he be loaned out next season?

    4) Tozer - not set the world on fire in the reserves - this is where the loan system works, he is getting valuable experience - will he merit being in the squad next season - has done just as well at Northampton as Kadar did in his few games at Huddersfield?

    5) Tavenier - sent on loan again but this time to a non league club yet people are saying he is worthy of a squad place but surely he hasn't played at a high enough level to be considered - maybe a League 1 loan beckons next season, but what will tthe point be as after that season he needs to go to the Championship or a lower level Premiership club (wait a sec, thats us at the monent)

    Am confused....

What are you on about? The five you mentioned were never going to be in our first team, but they're young and potentially have a future at the club so we loaned them out to get experience rather than leaving them to stagnate in the reserves. It's not a difficult concept to grasp.

Lua Lua's loan spells at Brighton appear to have done him the world of good. It allowed him to gain confidence and he was scoring some incredible goals before being injured. Allowing them to go on loan lets them play at a higher level than they probably would in the reserves here.

Forster needed to go on loan because we have 2 top quality young keepers (imo he was behind Krul in the pecking order before going to Norwich) and he needed a chance to go and prove himself against better-quality opposition .

And with Tavernier, I think him and Edmundsson going to Gateshead was just a thing to build a partnership between the clubs, as they won't have to move away and we can keep an eye on them.

The difference with Forster is that GK's are different. We could put Lua Lua or Kadar in the squad and still not have too many CBs or wingers, but you can only really have 2 goalkeepers. With Forster we are trying to determine who is better, him or Krul, to decide who gets the number one shirt when Harper retires.

Just sell us Foster, he's been solid and made no glaring mistakes - although not really tested in a league where we have kept 20 clean sheets this season.

The only loan that confused me is Routledge's, the squad isnt big enough that we can afford to do that and he isnt a youngster who will improve, so we just weakened our squad for no reason.

Routledge will probably be back in the Prem as a QPR player.

It was a strange decision when we needed width on the right but thank god we had Joey.

Whilst it's not an excuse really, Pardew said in that BBC interview that we essentially got shafted off someone when we were about to buy a better RW to replace him.

This. I doubt Tozer has a future with us though.. seems like a potential L1/Championship player at best IMO.

They weren't ready for first team and it was good to get them out on loan and get them some regular football
