Heard from a good source that the Pog has been offered 70k + per week By Reading, and 50+ by WHU,a figure Fulham was in no way prepared to match. My question being, if this is fact, does he warrant us offering this sort wage. Personally I think not,he could be another injury prone AJ type of player.
I have my doubts about whether Pog is a long-term solution to our attacking problems. Take away his explosive start and he scored once in the last 9 games. Given that we may have to do without Dempsey next season we need a 'number 9' who can stick the ball in the net on a regular basis and I'm not sure Pog is the man to do that. I think the club's approach is pretty much right. He's a good player and has done enough to warrant a new deal at Fulham but if he can get a better offer elsewhere then good luck to him.
The horse trading has certainly begun, Bidley. According to this article we have offered £20k pw and Reading £30k pw so your assessment is on the ball - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2161427/Reading-ramp-Pavel-Pogrebnyak.html
I agree with Fullamish. I like most I’d never heard of him when he signed then I was blown away by his explosive start. Since then he has tending to drift in and out of games. His goals per games in good but its sued by the 4 he scored against Wolves. Towards the end of the seasons there were games (I remember spurs away on the last game) where he was never in a game. I heard an interview with a Russian Jurno who absolutely slaughtered him after the Wolves games. He was saying he would guarantee the Pog would never score 4 goals in a game before and questioned his attitude. Apparently at every club his has been to he has had an explosive start then fizzled away. Saying that I would have been happy if we had kept him but as Bidley says for around £30k/week, the £50k + he seems to be looking for seems a bit steep but he is a free agent so guess he can push for an increased wage. The 4 against Wolves were great but the lasting memory I will have of him is his goal in the one nil win at Loftus Road then running over to the fans.
Tend to agree that the Pog did well for us, settled in quickly, but is he worth pinning down as our main striker, I don't think so. With the rumours of a few other players leaving, it looks like it maybe another season of having to build a team and hope they all gel quickly.
The plot thickens. As you will remember from the 'Papers and Transfers' thread we are strong favourites to sign this team's striker - http://www.turkish-football.com/news_read.php?id=3066
