The 5th unofficial golfing Major takes place tomorrow, ( yes there is other sport out there other than Cheltenham...) The Players Golf Championship at TPC Sawgrass, and I thought it would be re-miss of me not to post a thread, just to give you all something else to look at other than Cheltenham this week...?? Not had much time to go deep into the stats so done a quick look at the players who generally have a good track record here being as it one venue that they return to each and every year, unlike the other Majors that switch round every year, bar The Masters of course. So course and distance form can be relevant at TPC Sawgrass where hitting the fairways is most important when playing on a Pete Dye track, he is well known for playing with the golfers mind from the tee and approach shots so course management is high on the list here. Anyway, here goes, all done with PadPow, pays Top 10... Xander Schauffle @ 25/1 Tied 2nd last year with four sub 70 rounds, and he knows how to win... Corey Connors @ 45/1 Two top 20 results the past two visits, already has two top 10's this season so is in form... Victor Hovland @ 66/1 Placed 3rd and 9th in his last two visits, -17 under collectively for those two championships... Brian Harman @ 70/1 Runner up in 2022, hits the fairways plenty, and his approach stats are always right up there, and I always feel that he is overpriced for a Major winner... Others i had in mind were Sungjae Im, Sepp Straka and Shane Lowry... Good luck if you are playing...
Well done to Rory for winning The Players Championship, great to see him play so well, if you take day 1's driving out of the equation that is, only hit 5 fairways all day...!! But he turned that around and got his game going and held off some spirited fightback from the rest of the pack. I bet his heart calmed down a little after JJ Spaun put his tee shot into the water on the 17th to virtually hand the trophy over to him there and then... Anyway, Corey got me my money back for a small profit....
