Now there is no denying that it was soft, if it went against us we would be annoyed, however Premiership defenders should know better than to stand in the penalty box with their arms in the air. If the decision was against us, I would be prepared to acknowledge this. I also think that the phrase about teams making their own luck is relevant, Nzonzi was frustrated due to our relentless pressure so threw his arms in the air appealing for a foul (which it wasn't). Yesterdays result shows that we have the ability to play attractive football, as we displayed in the first half, and the determination to fight hard (and dirty) against a massive (in stature) side. Blackburn came well prepared with a clear game plan, and it almost worked. We learned a lot from yesterday, and will be stronger as a result. Bring on Villa. OTBC PC
Penalty isn't an issue for me because it balances out the one we didn't get earlier, but Johnson's goal was sooooo lucky.
The number of times I have seen the ball hit Craig Fleming's arm over the years and had penalties given for them so I do not feel so bad when we get the odd one or two.
We defended naively and nearly got punished, we played flashes of brilliance in the first half whipping lots of decent crosses in but it all looked a tad predictable... Rovers goals looked far to easy and i was quite concerned that we were forgetting how to defend... Blackburn are not a poor side and a point was about right on balance however the 4 5 1 that has served us so well is effective away from home to keep things tight but i would like to see a 4 4 2 against Arsenal.... The problem with starting Holt and Morison is we would lose the impact of bringing Holty on full of beans ,after 70 mins of leg sapping work . He clearly lifts the crowd and scares the defenders........ PS OP, The pen was soft but it was a hand ball, and Holt does dive to win us free kicks because he has defenders climbing all over him .... Its what strikers do in this league..
'He wasn't looking where the ball was there was no whistle and he has moved his arms for no reason resulting in the ball striking one in the box. Thats a penalty.' Quote from my referee friend I still think it's harsh but i'll take it.
As they say play to the whistle, it was soft but it was daft of him to wave his arms round like a fairy in the box.
