I have to say soo far I'm quite impressed with Roys selection. I would have chose almost the same squad.

    England squad:

Goalkeepers - Joe Hart, Robert Green, John Ruddy.

Defenders - Leighton Baines, Gary Cahill, Ashley Cole, Glen Johnson, Phil Jones, Joleon Lescott, John Terry.

Midfielders - Gareth Barry, Stewart Downing, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Scott Parker, Theo Walcott, Ashley Young.

Strikers - Andy Carroll, Jermain Defoe, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck.

I'm not too impressed. This means he's going to play Glen Johnson at right back. What happened to Micah Richards? And Downing above Adam Johnson? Not a chance. Even Lennon is better than Downing.

    Me too.

No disrespect to AOC because he's done very well this season considering his age but he's only started 6 Premier League games and doesn't look truly settled at that level yet. Far, far too early for him in my opinion .

Downing's the most concerning choice without doubt, it's all well and good taking a punt on AOC but picking Downing was outright madness <laugh>

Can't make up my mind if I's a talent shortage or no one willing to take risks. Not inspired & see us relying on Rooney to confirm qualification from the group.

I agree with Yid but in Oxocube's defence he can play anywhere in the attacking midfield role which brings some versatility. He'd also bring that injection of pace for the last 20 minutes which you sometimes need. Hopefully he'll also approach the game without any fear like most kids do. Still not sure if I'd have included him though.

One thing is for sure and that's that I've have not taken Terry, Downing or Johnson. Real shame Wilshere and Walker are injured as they'd have shone in this tournament.

Anyone see that Henderson is down as one of the subs!

Totally agree. He missed out a few plays that should be in there. Definately Micah Richards and Walker should be in there and i'd also put Lennon in there too. Also what has Carroll done to deserve to be in the squad over Holt? The rest just picked themselves really. Apart from OXO, their are no real suprises.

Fans just hate Rooney because he's an idiot but he's one of the best strikers in world football.

34 gaols in all competitions this season. 198 career goals is pretty impressive for a 26 year old who has played at least half his games for United as a second striker.

    No way?! <laugh>

I agree with you about AOC's versatility being a plus point and important to have that kind of player for a tournament but I think they have versatility in the attacking areas covered with Milner, Young, Rooney and Walcott.

I agree, I'd have probably plumped for that diving barsteward Adam Johnson over him and allowed him a couple more years to develop without the added pressure on his shoulders.

main good thing coming from this is that oxo cannot be taken to the olympics by pearce! FA have said any player that goes to the euros will not be going to the olympics. big bonus for us, because he probably won't even play for england and thus won't get injured.

fairly good team selection. i personally would have taken richards instead of jones, but he wants jones because he can play CB and RB (filling up the 4th CB and 2nd RB slots). people think richards can play CB because of his size and strength, but he really can't.

midfield he has it fairly spot on. however, parker is injured atm, and if he doesn't make it for the euros, hodgson for some reason has picked henderson as back-up midfielder. i would have taken carrick at least as back up, who has just had his best season. i didn't used to rate carrick, but he has been good for man utd and really deserved that spot over at least henderson, who is cack.

he has screwed up a bit in the wingers. walcott, yes. young, yes. chamberlain, why not. downing! <doh> he has had a terrible season, the stats back this up. i don't rate lennon, but he would have been a much better choice. as would have taking carrick and using milner as a wide man. or scott sinclair, or nathan dyer, or even jermaine pennant for crying out loud! it seems his inclusion and henderson as back up are due to his liverpool affiliation, nothing more. can't even see why he does that, considering the way in which they sacker him

in attack no real surprises. likely that carroll will start most games as a one man forward until rooney comes in, but it shouldn't be too bad for england. unlucky for crouch and holt, who have both had much better overall seasons that carroll, defoe and rooney. however, holt is a bit old and i guess roy didn't want to start his england career at that age, and crouch people just don't seem to rate, despite his goal tally.

Welbeck, Defoe or Carroll for two games whilst Rooney is banned. I doubt we'll even pass through the group stages with such a shoddy forward line.

Downing does'nt derserve to go because he's ****.
Johnson probaly has'nt been picked because he's barely played this season.

Me neither, just going to watch it because it's football, but don't really care. It's all about club football, international football has sadly become very crap and a none issue. The irony is that you actually see real international football being represented by club football.

I think this squad has nowhere near the talent to do well in the Euros tbh when you look at the possible squads Spain, Italy and Germany could have, ours looks pretty weak. Bringing in a guy with 6 PL games worth of experience is a massive gamble. As much as I love the kid, Oxo's no way good enough to get into this squad yet. Downing's an utter joke of a player with no goals or assists all season, which is now apparently worthy of a place in England's squad. Someone mentioned it before in this thread but Micah Richards is far better than Glen Johnson, and our attack is a bit pathetic with Andy Carroll and Danny Welbeck getting into the squad...
