We should not get too carried away with this one. He was less than twice the legal limit, it’s not like he was roaring drunk.

More of an issue is consuming alcohol a few days before the season starts and then showing up with a serious lack of fitness.

Sorry Yorkie - but totally disagree with you. There is no place at all on this planet for any form of drink driving, absolute disgrace. Forget being a professional athlete, but that is down right disgraceful. It's not like he can't afford a cab home...you just don't do that.

I would sympathise more if he was just having a tough time emotionally and wanted a beer or two, but don't put yours, and others' lives at risk.

He's obviously in a dark(ish) place atm, and that would be more of a concern ato him and to his family. Hopefully things turn aroud for him and he gets his career back on track

The law says you can have a drink and drive. Many, many people have a couple of pints and drive. Some will be under the limit, some just over depending on the strength of alcohol, body mass, how long since they consumed it. Some people will get rat faced until two in the morning and then drive to work in the morning over the limit.

Similar to the coronavirus situation, the law and how we behave as a society is a mess so I don’t think Norwood is necessarily a villain in this case.

Fair play, there are a lot of things we can legally do, doesn't necessarily make them sensible....when it comes to drink driving, you just shouldn't do it, just totally selfish and irresponsible...

Of course Norwood is the villian, he drove under the influence of alcohol, will get convicted, lose his licence, and be fined, if he was not at fault whose fault was it ?

People in England do this habitually so it’s the fault of the law.

The limit in Scotland and most European countries is less than in England. So many factors affect whether you will be over the limit that by English law some people on some days can comfortably have a couple of pints and be legal and others might only have a pint and be over.

We send the message that it’s okay to have a pint and then drive. It shouldn’t be.

For me there should be a low threshold for the avoidance of all doubt. The aim here is to prevent death and injury and no one needs to ever have a pint or a glass of wine and drive yet millions do.

The court will deal with that side of it and I’m sure he’ll get a ban.

On the Ipswich Town side of it - we have a key player who has not played for six months, has let his fitness go and is out drinking a few days before the start of the new season. Where is his motivation to get into shape? What’s gone so wrong there? His performances so far this season have been so far below par for his capabilities that it beggars belief.

With the amount of disposable income the guy’s got, if there was any doubt about whether he was,or wasn't,over the limit, then he's got no excuse for not calling a cab.End of,as far as I'm concerned.

But I agree Yorkie, that as a professional sportsman he should be getting better guidance from the Club.

Back to the OP. The sport is reflective of society - a few at the top have the vast majority of the wealth and the system is entirely unsustainable.

I think that there is a lot more selfishness about these days with people expecting to have whatever they want without actually working for it not just in a financial sense either.
