I see Chamakh is looking to leave Arsenal and that Marveaux isn't playing for Newcastle.....

Both players could easily have ended up at Anfield had things been slightly different. Two lucky escapes then! Got me thinking about others who got away, for the better or worse....for me, there are several during Rafa's reign where the fat cowboys didn't back his judgement; Silva, Villa et al.......

Who, for you, are the ones that got away?

Alou Diarra, how he never even stepped foot on our field and was here for 2 years! Now France captain and a sought after player, many league titles and CL with Lyon, Bordeux.

I thought Cisse, Pongolle, and Garcia left too soon, but I know these are split decision type of guys ( love or hate).

    hmmmmmmmmmmmm....

ok i think there is a certain yes and no on these as things work out the way the work out.

for me G&H screwed us over.

lets just say got away should include maschernao and alonso but thats moot.

if you write a team down in 2008 then add about 4 players to that list you know what i mean... spend the keane money on silva.... keep alonso and forget aquilani money... buy aguero when younger for instance.... i honestly don't think villa was ever on as at 35 mil no-one at the time was going to buy him and we are 20mil max spenders. Real turned him down remember.

over all i'd say silva was on if money was put on the table, mata may well have been on as well last year, aguero might have been on for 30mil in 2009
