Is it just me, or is there anybody else out there who's not 'on message' about these damned Olympics? I'm already sick to the back teeth with all the trivial, meaningless, pointless news items about the ****ing torch relay. The latest 'news' is that Doctor Who star Matt Smith has carried a torch for 300m. Apparently, Smith (29) being a former youth footballer who had try-outs with Leicester City, Notts Forest and Northampton Town, managed the 300m 'without difficulty'. **** me. I mean, Doctor Stephen Hawking could manage 300m on a pogo stick carrying some heavy shopping. Live coverage of the sacred flame landing in Cornwall anybody? Special traffic lanes in London for the athletes at all? Reliable tenants being evicted from their East London homes so greedy landlords can quadrulpe short-term rents to Olympophiles grab you? Thousands upon thousands of strangers flooding into the country when we're supposed to have an illegal immigration problem and potential terrorist threats seem slightly ill-advised? Frankly, I can't wait for the whole kit n' caboodle to be over so we can get back to normality. Roll on August when we can have our footie back. The proper stuff, not the why-the-****-do-we-need-football-at-the-****ing-Olympics variety.
Sorry...I'm in the opposite camp. I dont like asll the build up crap but I cant wait for the olympics to get started. I cannot wait for the greatest athletes on the planet to compete against each other in a winner takes all compotition...!! I love my football, but this is the biggest sporting competition inthe world ! The skill levels and amount of dedication it takes to get there is second to none... Dont kid yourself....footy players are fit, but this is a whole new other level... The bu****it press about the premioership being the best league in the world, shameless exploiting of REAL footbal fans and basically riping of anyone they can "in the name of football" is an embarrasment!! I bet you'll watch usain Bolt do 9.39, Oduhu fail again and our cycling team smash the Aussies...? You are obviously entitled to your view, but as i said, I'm in the other camp....The publicity stuff is a bit embarrasing though !!
I'll be out of the country from the 1st day thank God. Shame they couldn't have given them to Australia again...
Uber's mumbling rant is both uncharactistic of him and also virtually incomprehensible. Having said that, I entirely agree with him and applaud his efforts to express a set of opinions on a major world event that has no place in our overcrowded little back yard. Months of unnecessary agg. Dreading the whole thing. Much better set in places like Sydney or Brisbane imo!
You're joking right? The worlds biggest sports event in one of the worlds biggest cities. The only city to have hosted the modern olympics 3 times !! (1908/ 48-ish and 2012) Sorry..just cant agrew iththis OP. But again, I'm not home and sybjected to the constant barrage of promo...but i REALLY wish i was !!
Sorry. Wasn't meant that way Uber. Was bigging you up for finding some sort of words to express what I find impossible to say. I've been speechless on this from the outset.
Yeah, I might watch the men's 100m final. But I don't even know who Oduhu is. Please don't get me on the bloody cycling. This once great nation is now bestowing knighthoods for riding a ****ing bike. I'm waiting for my 7 year old daughter to be made a dame. I think they should let them all take whatever drugs they like (mumble, mumble). I mean, who wouldn't want to see a man (mumble, mumble) run the 100m in 4.35 seconds before crumpling into a heap as his heart explodes? Now I'd pay to see that (mumble, mumble).
Looking forward to the football. No ****ers like Terry and Lampard on view. Should be a few young players trying to show what they can do. Mind you, I'm feeling a bit smug as I have tickets to the final!
...and, Jesus Sebastian Christ, the number of people who've come up to me and asked how many tickets I was awarded out of what I applied for. Why does everybody automatically assume that I must have applied for tickets? Oh yes, it's because the ****ing Olympics are here and, therefore, we must all embrace it, else we're not true patriots or some such ****.
Queens, reckon you may have a few takers for a house swap for the duration. I will enjoy watching some of the events on TV and obviously want UK to do well, but one of the few times I'm delighted to be exiled from London. Just hope there are no humiliating cock ups to embarrass us. Ticketing already a farce, via official channels tickets for 100m finals still available....at £725 each. My wife took one look and said why dont you get a couple of Rs season tickets, seem really good value, so cant really complain. One thing this is certainly not is an event for the British, let alone Londoners, as shown by such great Englishmen as Will.I.Am and Drogba carrying the torch. No way would we have volunteered for this had it not been awarded before the financial crash.
Go Uber, go Uber...!! (rant on I mean - not attend!) This with that bus full of Chinese (state Olympic 'supporters') in mind. Bus stopped every so often along the routes of various events. Out jumped rent-a-crowd to 'line' the route with a synchronised chant of 'come-on, come-on...' etc. for the cameras - in English. Talk about stage managed. We laugh - but I doubt we'll be much different!
Noticed that each torch carrier gets to keep the torch. Just been told that they have to pay £200 for the privilege. Suppose they can be auctioned for charity or sold on eBay, but a beautiful example of the Olympic Spirit, 2012. Judo, as a torch bearer can you confirm this?
So me and queenslander are in the other camp! No surprise there. He's my brother from another continent What the ........26 World championships in my backyard, what a wonderful wonderful once in a life time chance....and to really **** you all off, I am a Gamesmaker...and I think I have really pulled a great job I am a driver in the Paralympics. So for 3 and half weeks they give me a BMW series 3 with all mod cons....and I drive it round London on my speciallly designated lanes really ****ing you lot off. Also you lot don't forget Judo is running the Torch relay and he was nominated to do that for what he does for his community....Don't you think that is a really neat idea too. This is the 6 weeks I have longed for ever since I started watching sport
It's ok for Queenslander, he doesn't live in London. If you are an official driver Beth, you'll be ferrying arseholes like Sepp Blatter in the VIP lanes whilst the rest of the capital descends into gridlock every day. Anyone who wants a ticket is lucky if they can get one for archery or shooting let alone real sport. It's a total mercenary sham run by a bunch of corrupt tossers who'd brand their granny if it earned a few more dollars. I was fortunate enough to book a 16 night cruise which sails on the day of the opening ceremony, I feel sorry for anyone who has to work in the capital or lives in London while this crap is taking place...
Nothing to do with me mate. I wanted to see some footy and appiied for footy tickets. I have not questioned your patriotism. So why quote me? i just want to see a good game of footy at Wembley on August 11th ... after the Europs and before the new season starts.
No I will be ferrying people like us who run parlympic sport for the disabled. People/organisers/sponsors who enabled disabled people to compete on the world stage and show everyone their abilities to be worldbeaters. Don't take everything so cynically Sooper. And actually I got tickets for the olympics quite easily...I just didn't want to go to the Olympics to say "I saw 100m final". I wanted to go to the Olympics to enjoy the whole sporting experience. I have tickets to see Hockey, Taekwando and Handball....because I have never seen Handball and I am just interested in sport, (all sport! even stuff I am having to look up the rules to) Enjoy your cruise Sooper, they are not for me...sitting around all day, doing nothing but eating and drinking and dining with the captain, or am I just being cynical
Beth, you are spot on...2 weeks with the same boring middle aged wife swapping parties on a boat, is no fun for me either.. Asfor driving those to the paralyics...well done !! If you cant enjoy the olympics then you dont enjoy sport as a whole. How could you not enjoy he 100 mtrs final, judo finals, cycling finals let alone the BMX, TaeKwondo,Boxing, hockey and beach volley ball ( just fr you guys) finals. The worlds biggest sporting event is in our home town...and you put it down?...dont understand that at all.....?
