The Olympics is a joyous, elating virus. Football is a condition.

Saw this article earlier, and thought I would share it.

I have been loving the Olympics, and was completely fixated by the Athletics the other night (whilst being largely uninterested in the football). Though, some seem to be making a comparison between the Olympics and football, and this article does a good job at addressing that.

    brilliant piece .
There is far more to it but part of what makes the difference is that in most "other " sports you have to in general make do with the personel you have at every level , theres no real transfer market and i suppose if tGB could buy American swimmers there would be questions asked of a failure .

IF football never had what we call club transfers with fees that come with it , we would possibly feel the same way about underachieving footballers that we do when its in another olympic sport.

I have to say it was only the MENS football that i doubted certain players commitment :/
