I don't know where you're getting this from, most people seem to be positive about the idea as long as it is still available for athletics.
It won't fail...I just don't think it will be a very good football ground. Unless they make seats moveable, fans will be a long way from the action. It won't be a cheap option, but will save time compared with building a new ground.
Hey trixter. What is the overall feeling in West Ham circles (by which I mean KUMB) about it? It's a bit different to when Saints moved to St Mary's because we had basically a whole (smaller) city and surrounding area to choose from, but move too far in London and you're treading on people's toes. The Olympic Stadium is fantastic but the Boleyn is not too shabby either, and can be expanded. So is it 100% excitement or is there some dissent about the move?
I hope that's not directed at me. I don't want it to fail nor am I jealous (admittedly we need a nice new stadium, but if I want amazing facilities, I can always go to Farnborough), I'm just concerned whether the wider community will get the opportunity to use it. I haven't seen the plans so obviously I can not say for sure either way, although I would expect any other usage would be grudgingly on the part of West Ham's owners. Me being against a football club taking over the stadium isn't anything against the football clubs themselves, just due to whether it would affect the stadium's ability to be a multi-usage arena. Wembley's fine as matches are played fairly irregularly except at the end of the season, while for any club, games will be played ever other week.
I wouldn't generalise if I was you. Nobody is envious [or jealous] in the slightest. For a start, the location is London. Personally, I'll take the South Coast over The Smoke any day of the week. As it happens, I just think it's a shame that Athletics and Leyton Orient FC look like they will get pushed aside. In a supposedly fair and equal society, that's simply not fair.
Totally agree with you PL, and the only thing I am jealous of, is people who have been to the Stadium and shared the country's best ever sporting moments. I would love to have the opportunity in future to go there and watch something like a Grand Prix Athletics event or such like. If they can do that and WHFC and Orient play football there with little disruption to the stadium then then I am for it being used for football as well.
The Olympics were a one off, the Commonwealth or European Games would be good, but not even close to the Olympics
Are you really looking forward to watching a game there? As Fran says, they'd need to put seats on the track (temporarily) and how many will it hold ... will you fill it. A full Upton Park is a cracking place to go.
