Hello and welcome to the official match thread for Wednesday's NextGen series encounter between Sporting Lisbon and Liverpool. Kick-off is at 8PM on Wednesday night. Build-up will start at 7PM on LFCTV. Preview. The Reds might have already qualified for the next phase of the tournament but there is pride at stake and the challenge to be the first team to beat Sporting Lisbon in the competition so far. Molde's failure to beat Sporting Lisbon on Saturday ensured Borrell's side claimed the runners-up position. Sa Pinto's side won 4-3 in Norway to finish top of Group 2 with 13 points. They have won four out of their five games so far including the 3-0 success at Anfield in the first NextGen Series game. Current Table. Tough game, but we are thru anyway, the result in 1st game well flattered them, on balance of play we were perhaps as good as them ,they just buried there chances,an that Teixeira looks an amazing player for them. Nice to see an Adam Morgan winner
Build-up begins on LFCTV (Sky Channel 434) at 7PM. Really looking forward to this game! As both teams have qualifed, this should be a good game...
any teams? I'd hope we are learning a lot in the travel and we've brought good guys like robinson and flanagan etc as travel for them is a great expereince for the first team too.
The best team on the night are wininng. Its a pudding of a pitch for both sets of lads there, its must have rained bigtime there earlier looking at the way the pitch cuts up under studs.
This will be a great learnin curve for these lads, its lettin them know they arnt as good as they THINK they are
i have to say us fans need to wake up as well. these guys ahave proved last year v utd they are not some golden generation. lets look at the team. Tyrell Belford, Andre Wisdom, Brad Smith, Stephen Sama (Suso), Matty McGiveron, Conor Coady, Raheem Sterling, Craig Roddan (Ryan McLaughlin), Adam Morgan (Toni Silva), Krisztian Adorjan, Michael Ngoo. Unused subs: Jamie Stephens, Marc Pelosi, Jakob Sokolik. now i have to say belford is not the most impressive keeper. We didn't bring the likes of flanagan or robinson at all it was a very young defence as a result but hey at least it was a bit more consistent. really though we have to start thinking about who in this set of players are good enough really. a lot of fans think the lot will come through. One poster said last night it'sd make a few of them realise the need to improve radically to make it and stop thinking they are it. For me sterling is actually the only kid out of all those mentioned who will make it and he'll only do so on pace as he's got an awful lot to learn. Adjoran looks decent oo but so did a fw other players of his type that never made it for us (duran for example) coady, wisdom, morgan, n'goo are all ok but I just don't see them making any break through at this time unless it is to force a spearing type out.
Its amazin how many players look the dogs bol**oxs when they 1st hit the acedemy, and then a couple of yrs later once they have gone thru the academy and 1 or 2 yrs in the reserves they look dinstinctly VERY average, a lot of our players dont seem to be making progress between the ages of 16 and 20, in my opinion, but to be honest I think this is an issue all over the uk The reserves league ,is an absolute shambles, and thats an understatement, they play about 15 games a season, how they gonna improve with that may games, they should be playin 35-40. For me the youngsters have to be makin the 1st team bench before they are 19, if they dont they seem to stagnate and lose heart.Morgan and Sterling must get a chance in the 1st team before NEXT Xmas for me But theres been loads of players over the years, who have looked great at 16, and then not moved on at 19/20.Eccleston,Amoo,Dalle Valle,Darby,Winfield,Irwin,Buchtmann.Suso at the moment looks as if he may be fallin in to this bracket too.I really think the likes of Sterling n Morgan might need 1st team chances in the next 6 months or they may start to stagnate as others have in the past
