The game is scheduled to be played at Langtree Park on Wednesday 28th November 2012 with a kick-off time of 6PM. The game will be shown on Eurosport. (Sky channel 410) Preview. Liverpool welcome Borussia Dortmund to Langtree Park on Wednesday in what will be a vital NextGen Series encounter for both sides. With Group Five so finely poised, a victory for either side could see them take a massive step forwards in this competition. However, a loss for either would be a massive blow and a Liverpool loss would see their NextGen campaign come to an end in the group stages. So, let’s have a look at the current standings in Group Five and the various permutations that this game will bring.

Team Name. Games Played. Games Won. Games Drawn. Games Lost. Goals Scored. Goals Conceded. Goal Difference. Points.

Rosenborg 5 3 1 1 9 7 2 10

Inter Milan 4 2 1 1 6 5 1 7

Borussia Dortmund 5 1 1 2 5 6 -1 5

Liverpool 4 1 0 3 7 9 -2 3

As you can see, Borussia Dortmund & Liverpool occupy 3rd and 4th place respectively. Dortmund hold a two-point lead over Liverpool going into this game which will be Dortmund’s last game in the group. If we have a closer look at the table, you can understand the importance of this game for both sides. Borussia Dortmund sit 2 points behind Inter Milan & Liverpool are 4 points behind Inter. A loss for Dortmund would see their chances of qualifying disappear. A loss for Liverpool would see their chances disappear. A draw for Dortmund wouldn’t be good enough either. A draw for Liverpool could be enough but it would depend on what happens in the game between Rosenborg & Inter which takes place on the 4th December. A win for Dortmund would see them move above Inter in the group but they would once again be relying on other results. (If Inter were to beat Rosenborg on 4/12/12, Dortmund would be out) A win for Liverpool would see them move to 6 points, a single point behind Inter, and they would be relying on other results. If Inter were to draw or lose against Rosenborg in a couple of weeks, then Liverpool could go through if they beat Inter in the final group game in January. I do hope that all makes sense... To summarise, a win for either side is important but it could not be enough as a lot of the final group positions depends on the game between Rosenborg & Inter in a couple of weeks. So, that’s the various permutations explained. Let’s take a closer look at the sides and who will be the key players for both sides. The home side, Liverpool, have been disappointing in this season’s NextGen series but some of that could go down to the players that they are eligible but will not be playing. For example, the likes of Suso & Raheem Sterling are still eligible to play in this tournament but their progression to the first-team has meant that they will not play on Wednesday as it seems likely that they will be involved in Liverpool’s first-team fixture with Tottenham Hotspur. Despite these players not available, there are still quality players in the Liverpool side. On the attacking front, the likes of Jordan Ibe & Krisztian Adorjan will be a big threat to the Dortmund backline. Adorjan has already shown what he can do in this tournament with a 2-goal haul in Liverpool’s 3-2 defeat away at Inter and will be an important player for Liverpool on Wednesday if he is in the squad. Jordan Ibe has also been an important player for Liverpool in the NextGen series. He has been involved in every single NextGen game for Liverpool and has produced some good performances and provided assists for the team. With his pace and width, he is a crucial part of Rodolfo Borrell's 4-2-3-1 formations and if he is involved, as expected, he will be a crucial asset and a good performance from Ibe will give Liverpool a big chance of getting the result they want. The away side, Borussia Dortmund, have bounced back well after a disappointing start. Their first games resulted in losses and they needed some sort of response. They beat Liverpool at home in their third fixture (2-1) and then got two draws (1-1 & 2-2) and these results mean that Dortmund have a chance of qualifying out of the group. One of the key players for Dortmund will be Nick Weber. The 17-year old has been involved in Dortmund’s NextGen games and got on the scoresheet as Dortmund got a 1-1 draw at home to Inter Milan. The striker also has 8 goals in 11 games in the youth league he plays in so it’s clear that Weber has a goalscoring instinct at this level so the Liverpool defence will need to watch him. So, a vital game to look forward to. With both sides needing the victory to stand any chance of progressing, we should be in for a good game of football. Bump. So, anyone going to the game on Wednesday? Only £5 entry. If not, don't forget that Eurosport are showing the game live. Perfect build-up for the Spurs game which will kick-off just as this game ends!
Call that a crest? It looks like a street sign to find the closest fire hydrant. We have to beat them, they have no class.
Thanks. It needed a sympathy post. Posted it yesterday evening and it has 4 replies... Two of them from me!
NextGen Series. Effectively the Under 19's Champions League. Lots of different youth sides from around Europe enter into this and play against each other. The likes of Arsenal, Ajax, Barcelona, Dortmund (Who Liverpool play on Wednesday) Chelsea, Juventus, Villa, Celtic, Manchester City, Spurs & Liverpool are all involved. Good tournament if you are interested in the youth teams of your football club and how they are getting on and the potential stars from those teams.
I tend not to follow the youth games too much (I watch too much footy as it is, the mrs would kill me if I started watching these too) but I knew all about the NextGen series, it's been crammed down our necks for the last couple of seasons on the club website Maybe that is another difference between our two clubs? Liverpool have always cared about the youngsters, not sure that is the case at Chelsea, I could be wrong though?
For those of you who are near a telly and have Sky, get Eurosport on! Sky channel 410 and their coverage is just about to start. I shall have the team news up as soon as possible and i'll try and keep this thread updated with the latest goings on.
Here is the team news. Liverpool team to face Borussia Dortmund. Fulton; McLaughlin, Jones, Sokolik, Smith; Coady, Lussey; Pelosi, Adorjan, Ibe; Morgan Borussia Dortmund team to face Liverpool. Wilmes, Knystock, Deelen, Zeugner, Nothangel, Deichmann, Bandowski, Benkarit, Bohmer, Beutler, Langesberg EDIT: When I find the subs, I shall add them to this post and the first post. Also worth noting that tonight's game is the first game for Alex Inglethorpe since he joined us from Spurs!
Not too much to report in the opening 10 minutes. Couple of shots from Liverpool but not powerful enough to beat the Dortmund 'keeper.
Good work from Ibe. Works it down the left-hand side and cuts in to just outside the penalty box and produces a shot which forces an good save from the Dortmund 'keeper.
And we've got a goal! It's a goal from our captain Conor Coady. Adorjan lays it off to Brad Smith on the left-hand side and he produced a lovely ball just between the Dortmund keeper and the defender and Coady nips in ahead of them to head it home. 1-0 Liverpool. Coady in the 21st minute.
