The game is to be played on Wednesday 18th September 2012 with the game kicking off at 2PM. LFCTV (Sky channel 429) will be playing a delayed showing of the game at 7PM. Preview. Liverpool begin their second season in the NextGen Series with an away trip to Italian giants Inter Milan. Rodolfo Borrell’s side performed well in last season’s competition with a credible third place being achieved by his squad. Borrell will be looking for an improvement in this season’s competition and will naturally have his sights set on a final appearance and hopefully winning the tournament. The squad which Borrell has at his disposal is different to last season’s squad with the majority of this year’s squad being made up from the Under 18 squad. The likes of Michael N’Goo & Jack Robinson, who performed very well in last season’s competition, are now ineligible and therefore won’t feature. There are still some high-profile names included in the provisional squad for this season’s tournament. The likes of Jack Dunn, Jordan Ibe, Stephen Sama, Marc Pelosi & Raheem Sterling. Sterling has been one of the success stories of the NextGen Series with his involvment in the tournament being one of the contributing factors to his promotion to the first-team squad and then the first-team squad. However, it would seem unlikely that Sterling would enter into the NextGen picture for a second season because of his consistent involvment in & around the first-team. Liverpool’s opponents tomorrow afternoon are the reigning champions Inter Milan. The giants of Italian football finished second in their group behind Tottenham Hotspur. Despite Inter Milan becoming the eventual champions, they didn’t have it all their way and were on the end of a 7-1 defeat to Spurs in the group stages. It shows the overall inconsistency of younger players and that, of course, is to be expected. Liverpool had the same issues and were on the end of a 5-1 away defeat at Sporting Lisbon. Inter’s success in this competition hadn’t gone unnoticed higher up at the club and the manager of the youth team from last season, Andrea Stramaccioni, was promoted to managing the first-team after Massimo Moratti dispensed with the services of Claudio Ranieri in March 2012. This means that Roberto Samaden will be the manager for this season’s NextGen Series and will be looking to continue the success of his predecessor. Inter will have a healthy mix of the players who performed well in last season’s competition, such as Daniel Bessa, and some players who will have been promoted into the NextGen squad after impressing in the various youth players. To conclude, an interesting game for both sides. The NextGen Series is an excellent tournament and it’s good to see it continue for a second year with new teams entering into this season’s competition. It will also give players from both Inter Milan & Liverpool the chance to introduce themselves to the wider public Here’s hoping that they do and we have a good game in prospect! LFCTV are showing a delayed version of the game at 7PM. The game itself kicks off at 2PM and at the moment, I can't find an English TV channel which is showing it live. Eurosport have a TV deal to show the NextGen Series but they aren't showing the game. I suspect there will be streams which will be able to be found closer to kick-off.
Excellent thread as always Chris a ridiculously tough start for RBs lads so let's hope they give a good account of themselves whatever the result.
Stop calling them Giants Chris. It's only Italian football.... Inter should be ****e, since their team last year was by far the oldest, with many a 19 year old in it. Now that they cannot play, I expect great things from the red men.
Looking forward to this one. Be good to have a look at our young guns on the highest stage or their age group.
Is anyone watching this game on a stream or such this afternoon....I cant watch as I am at work. If someone knows what is going on as it happens if they could post would be awesome... Also is it on any radio?
And here is the team news! Inter Milan Team To Face Liverpool. Raffaele; Isaac, Ibrahima, Mateo, Simone; Alfred, Niccolo, Marco, Francesco; Gennaro, Luca. Liverpool Team To Face Inter Milan. Belford; McLaughlin, Jones, Sama, Smith; Baio, Roddan; Ibe, Pelosi, Adorjan; Sinclair.
11 minutes in and it's 0-0. Just started watching the stream provided above this post and it's not too bad. Nice work jaffakop!
And we're 1-0 down. Inter play a ball into the box from midfield, it's headed up in our box by one of our defence (Not sure who at the moment...) and an Inter player takes advantage. Rifles the ball into the net and we're 1-0 down after around 15 minutes.
And we're back level! Liverpool win a penalty after Sinclair goes down in the box (My stream is playing up a bit at the moment so i'm not 100% sure what happened and if it was/wasn't a penalty!) Anyway, Kristan Adorjan steps up and puts the ball into the back of the net. 1-1.
And we're losing. Again. Not too sure what happened with this goal (Stream still being a bit iffy) but I did see that Inter had a throw-in, went into our box and I assume someone curled home from the left-hand side of the box. 2-1 down.
