The game is scheduled to take place at Central Stadion on Thursday 2nd of August 2012 at 7PM. The game will be shown on Premier Sports which is on Sky Channel 428. Please note that Premier Sports is a channel which will need subscription. However, links are normally posted on this thread just before and during the game. Preview. So, here we are. After a summer in which we saw Kenny Dalglish leave his position as Liverpool manager after a disappointing season in the Premier League & Brendan Rodgers leave Swansea City to take up the post at Anfield, we have some competitive football to enjoy! Liverpool begin their season rather early compared to their Premier League rivals and this is due to the clubâs involvement in the Europa League. After winning the Carling Cup in late February, Liverpool were entered into the third qualifying round for this seasonâs Europa League. This means that the new manager, Brendan Rodgers, will face his first competitive game in a European competition! Because this fixture has come round rather early in the calendar, you can expect a range of younger players and some more experienced. This allows players such as Raheem Sterling, Adam Morgan, Jonjo Shelvey & Joe Cole a chance to impress Rodgers after all playing significant parts of Liverpoolâs recent tour of North America. FC Gomel will be the opponents for Liverpool in this qualifier. The Belarusian side joined the Europa League in the first qualifying round and have played four games so far in this seasonâs Europa League. They faced Vikingur in the first qualifying round and produced a comprehensive performance to beat the Faroe Islanders 10-0 on aggregate. They were then drawn against FK Renova of Macedonia in the second qualifying round. This was a much closer affair with FC Gomel taking a 2-0 lead going into the second leg. FK Renova scored early in the second half of the second leg to make the tie interesting but FC Gomel held out and secured a two-legged tie with Liverpool. Looking at the FC Gomel squad, there are a few players who Liverpool will need to watch carefully if they are to gain a positive result from the first leg. Up-front, Vyacheslav Hleb has 2 goals in 2 games so far in this competition and will be one of the key players in an attacking sense for Gomel. You may also recognise his last name and I can confirm that is indeed the younger brother of Alexander Hleb who has had spells with Arsenal and Barcelona. In midfield, Vadzim Dzemidovich has 3 goals in 4 games so far in this season's Europa League and if Gomel are to gain a positive result going into the second leg at Anfield, then him and Vyacheslav Hleb will need to work well together and help to provide chances for Gomel. So, can FC Gomel produce a shock in Belarus and gain a good result going into the second leg at Anfield? Will Brendan Rodgers get his Liverpool reign off to a good start? And will Jamie Carragher, Liverpool legend, be given his 600th appearance? Could he even get his 6th goal?! Alright, that last bit may be slightly unrealistic... Injury News. FC Gomel. A match thread...it's been too long cheers Chris. Know sod all about Gomel obviously but can't wait to see some competitive football and hopefully some of the younger players too.
Cant get Premier sports on Virgin so looks like a stream it is. Be interesting to see who plays. The main ones being Carroll and Aqua as I presume if we want rid we dont want to cup tie them.
I think the cup tie thing will be the most interesting thing about the game. we've looked toothless up front so am eager so see what we do in a real game..... I'm backing us to take an away goal home anyway.... key players should be: jones (unfrtunately) skertl enrique Adam Spearing cole these guy have played most and trained longer so when we are looking for 90mins out of guys they are key. I expect borini, gerrard, carragher, johnson to also feature. Joens Johnson carra skertl enrique gerrard spearing adam cole borini Pacheco/downing/sterling? agger, kelly, lucas, carroll, henderson and unselected lieft side players from above to be in the squad. All in all i think carroll will be o nthe bench but may not be put on to avoid the cup tie thing..... it'll be very interesting to see if pacheco goes or not.
Line up predictions/ hopes. I want to see Carroll cup tied, but I expect Borini to start. ----------------Jones----------------- -Flanagan--Skrtel----Agger---Enrique-- --------------Spearing---------------- ---------Gerrard-----Henderson------- ------Downing--------------Cole------ ----------------Borini----------------- Wide forwards were hard to predict.
Teams... ----------------Jones------------------ Kelly----Skrtel----Agger----Enrique ---------------Spearing--------------- -------Henderson--Cole------------ Downing------Borini---------Sterling How likely is that?
I think if Pepe is back from his hols ... he'll have to start, to get some match sharpness. Lets be honest he's been idle since May.
Dont know why know one is naming Shelvey. he is one of the match fit players and was probably the stand out players of the tour.....
Jones Flannagan Carragher Skrtel Enrique Spearing Adam Cole Shelvey Downing Borini That's my prediction for the game. Would prefer to see Sterling, Suso & Henderson instead of Cole, Adam and maybe Speaing though. Gerrard, Johnson & Carroll to come on as subs in the second half.
not naming shelvey cos i jsut think rodgers might pick gerrard ahead of him and fall ito the same routine of all managers. has ANYONE got a link to an official match squad as rumours are flying about about every player not picked going and such.
