    Is that right?

    I find it quite mental that, apart from Perch and Guthrie, Pardew chooses to put out arguably our strongest formation and starting XI, but for the Carling Cup game <doh>. Why doesn't he use this in the EPL?

    Yes that's right.

    We dont play Stoke for 5 days, and while Ben Arfa and Santon will soon be regulars, Best and Raylor/Simpson are playing well enough to keep their places.

    That said, I think Santon, Marveaux and Ben Arfa are better than the players they replace, and Guthrie and Perch are worse, so you could argue it's actually a stronger side than the one that faced Wigan.

    Guthrie is a great player. People seem to forget how good he was for us in a **** team that got relegated.

    Then he was our most creatively influential player in getting promoted again

    Now he's injured every time the manager gives him a sniff at the starting XI
