This weekend sees the 79th annual running of, arguably the greatest motor race in history, the 24 Heures du Mans.

Once again we have the clash of the LMP1 titans in Peugeot with their improved 908 and Audi with their brand spanking new R18 which sees Audi enter their first closed cockpit car into the LMP1 class.
2011 also sees the introduction of new regulations and a reorganising of classes within the race.

Here is a list of useful links for the race.

    Entry List
Spotters Guide 1, Spotters Guide 2

The Le Mans 24 hour is a great spectacle.

Unfortunately, I stopped subscribing to sky so I will not be able to watch it on eurosport. I will have to track down coverage on the internet.

Do you need to subscribe to Eurosport or can you get it if you just have Sky?

The shark fins are mandatory on new cars; helps to stop them tipping over in a spin.

What he said. Prototypes have a habit of doing funny things in crashes and if they catch a bit of air the wrong way. I heard there were also changes made to the underside of the car to prevent somersaults that can happen if the nose lifts (cresting a hill for example) and air catches the underneath of the car

For people interested in British drivers then the official site says that there are 25 GB drivers entered.

However, according to the official entry list then there are 28.

The list shows frenchman Nicolas MINASSIAN as GBR and Alan McNish as MCO. Don't quite follow that.
