Only seems fair that on the back of my bringing up the subject of the possibility that Rodgers would not turn it around and could face the sack. I was probably the first on here to state that although I hoped he'd turn it around I'd go for Simeone if he became available. I have to admit that with the recent performances and results he has done a great job in getting us back on track, I really didn't see it happening. Lots of footy to be played yet but we do look a force again and well done to the manager for being the driving force behind this revival. He has his faults but is young and does seem to be learning, I'm sure there will still be some frustration with him at times but I have to be the first in line to apologise for not having more patience. Balotelli is still **** though.
He's actually capable of looking at what he's got and making a plan to get the most out of it. Unlike, say, Martinez or Van Gaal.
It might take him 4 months of trial and error though...usually with lots of error with picking the wrong players in the wrong positions with the wrong partner along the way...but granted, he does get there in the end.
He was robbed of his 2 main attacking threats at the start of the season and had to find a way to set the team up to try and be dangerous. Not many managers would be able to do it with such a limited strike force (even if they are all his signings) so he changed the system to make us more solid at the back knowing we weren't going to win games 4-2 anymore. Theory being is we can keep clean sheets or concede 1 at the most, it makes it easier to win games. The system he's stumbled back upon has it's flaws and i'm still not 100% convinced by it but at the moment, it's working and it's bringing the best out of what we have. 3 at the back allows Skrtel to be free and attack the ball and he can pass either side to better players. Sakho & Can can be the ball playing defenders. The midfield 2 of Henderson & Lucas may not be the best in the World but they compliment each other and it's no real surprise we look more solid with Lucas, a proper DM, in the side. Having the 2 wing backs provide width allows Coutinho/Lallana to come inside and find spaces in the middle (in effect having 4 central midfielders) means one of them should always be free and being free in those dangerous central areas are perfect. We've just been missing that finisher up top with Sterling doing a job at the moment. Shove Sturridge in for Sterling and drop him back into the number 10 position with Coutinho where they can both exploit spaces and it has the making of a good formation and players. The 2 wing backs I'm still not sure on. Moreno has been ok, not briliany defensively or offensively and Markovic while he's been good at times, is still young and inconsistent. Overall, very happy with the team 11 that started today plus Sturridge.
I stick by my opinion and would jump at the chance if De Boer, Simeone or Klopp become available. These Managers are used to the DOF structure and won't go on an ego trip and will therefore work with the committee, and all 3 believe in building from the back and ensuring defences are solid.
Oh uir would know an easy run of games.. He was crowing about Utd winning all sorts when they had theirs Can't wait to see utds easy cup run continuing as well
Despite all the criticism you can point at him (and there are many), there is no doubt we are playing better and its not worth the risk making a change now. It all depends on how the season goes from here.
Well theres 4 league games there including one of the top 4 and one of the leagues toughest away games. Compared with... Ahem.... Burnley Leicester Villa Swansea Sunderland West ham (decimated team) Real tough run of games...
hey could genuinely end up with zero points after that. The one game that stands ou is Spus at home but then again, Spurs away is an almost certain 2-1 win with Kane and Eriksen scoring the goals.
