Well it's been a glum pre-season before our 16th consecutive campaign in this division. We don't have much enthusiasm and optimism for the season ahead, so how about a radical shake-up?

McCarthy has been sacked and Evans is looking for applications. I've thrown my name in the hat and said my first appointments would be Southcoastoldgaffer as my assistant gaffer and Wellyblue is my Director of Football. CastroSito is my defence coach and Yorkiegit is my attacking coach responsible for getting the most out of that strikeforce!

As for my ideal starting eleven? I've opted for a very solid defence, an abundance of creativity in the middle, and yes, you've guessed it, bags of pace up front! ;)

Note: Apologies if I've missed anybody!

    Quality Nuggets...Love it.
Although i don't think I've played in goal since losing 5-0 in the All London schools championships - I was more of a Terry Butcher back in my playing days.

Surely looking at the line up, Big Al should be CB.
I'd also put Spanish in the middle to pi$$ off the opposition

I see you've also left yourself out.. Bam Bam supersub?

Have we met before?.. Or sheer fluke that you had me down as the tricky left winger than I am.

Previously lauded as a mix between Bobby Petta and Darren Currie*

As attacking coach I think my first action will be to resign

The very thought of Warky and Spanish working together and likely to be the best comic duo since Laurel and Hardy (with the obvious exception of that great comedy act Mick and Terry) I'm afraid I would die laughing

Would make a great sitcom though

Nice one Nuggetts and I am flattered to have been selected in your starting 11 but I see myself as being more in the role of the Midfield Maestro himself as a Box to Box Midfielder. Haha Who am I kidding!! I've got the Tache but that's all I've got in common with the great man unfortunately!

Oh and Big Al for Centre Back all day long! Field Marshall must be the Skipper barking out instructions and leading by example. <ok>

Maybe I should drop Spanish and sign him up as the PA announcer at Portman Road? What better person to get the crowd going and raise everybody's spirits?

It would be interesting to know everyone's most favourite Town Player of all time that they have actually watched.

No prizes for guessing who my own particular hero is! I still remember the 1980/81 season when Warky was banging them in for fun! 36 Goals he scored that season! TWTD

Favourite player i've ever seen "live" is Dalian Atkinson - so underrated and had speed and skill in abundance.
Fave player of all time though, probably Butcher - you just didn't mess with him. Epitomizes what a defender should be

Although was a close call, as i also was a huge fan of Mich D'avray

Having been lucky enough to have seen the great Town sides of the 70s and 80s I am spoiled for choice.Pushed to choose just one I'd have to say Kevin Beattie,he was a phenomenal footballer and could probably have played in any position. He had it all, strength, speed, skill and courage in abundance.Him.....or Graham Harbey:emoticon-0140-rofl:

I suppose any player from those great sides that Sir Bobby built will have hero status. Eric Gates was another player who I loved watching. The only player since then who got me off my seat every time he touched the ball is Martjn Reuser! What a player he was.

Thank jonny this is a great idea but the sad fact is there's hardly enough of us left to pick a side if we wanted to.

As a younger lad, I didn't start going to games until around 1998/99, and even then I was too young to completely understand and appreciate the game.

My stand-out favourite Town star growing up was Fabian Wilnis. I remember getting his autograph at the Buttermarket in Ipswich when he was sat down signing club merchandise. Pablo Counago was there too, and he was another favourite. The thing I liked about Wilnis the most was his passion. But not only that, looking back I can appreciate he was arguably the best Town player in recent years to combine defence and attack so effectively. He dominated that right flank whenever he played. I guess the most recent comparable player was Aaron Cresswell, and we only really got two or three good years out of him.

As for a more attacking player, I'm torn between Marcus Stewart and Darren Bent, both brilliant strikers.

Similar to Nuggets I only started watching in the mid 90s so haven't seen the glory years though the early 00s were pretty special and something we can only dream of now. From that time favourite player was Magilton, great playmaker who even if he was having a bad game never shied away from the ball and was a good character to, something you don't get in the modern game too much.
