Looking for a stickwise special tomorrow. Taken SPECIAL REPORT 5.30 Newton Abbot 25-1 as the Mulholland stable are in such good form. He was well beaten here a week ago but that was over three furlongs further. He was given a hefty bump four from home that day and that did him no favours whatsoever. Only a four year old he is still possibly open to improvement and I am taking a bit of a chance at decent odds. The other one that I really like is ETON RAMBLER 6.05 Windsor 8-1 who is racing off a mark that he should go very close off. The price looks very generous!
A real cheeky gamble taking form at Newton Abbot tomorrow on ROGUE DANCER 3.00 8/1. This horse spent the winter at Alan Hills point to point yard where he had one run between flags and absolutely bolted up winning by a distance. The Hills are brilliant at finding a horses problem and fixing it and this could easily be their latest successful project. He is 10lbs out of the handicap although Trevor Whelan will negate 3 lbs of that. Don't let this put you off though as since his last run the handicapper has for whatever reason dropped the horse by a whopping 23lbs. I have never seen such a handicap shoo-in from so far out of the handicap! Tudor and Hill again combined in the Open Maiden was the nine-year-old Rogue Dancer coasted to a facile success on his debut between the flags. Hill, who later in the afternoon collected the prize for the Leading Trainer in the Area, said of the Dark Moondancer gelding: “He was my nap of the day and I told all the locals they could have as much as they wanted on him. I’m not sure he’s beaten much though.”
Just got back from hospital, visiting our new grandson born today. Missed the first half of the France game.
Thanks all. I was thinking that Secret Gesture might be a good bet but then I noticed 2 things: 1. The ground is good to firm and she has only encountered that once before and finished behind easy winner The Fugue. That was a G1 but she made no impression at all. Her best form seems to be on good or softer so there's a bit of a negative there 2. Spencer never seems to do me any favours - that's another negative Two negatives, however small, are enough to put me off. Had the going been good and J Crowley riding that would have been a banker for me.
Not sure why Ron is getting congratulations. Not as if he had to do anything!! Really pleased for you Ron, hope all is well.
Cheers Cyc. No, we already have a little Ron (although he is 33 now). This one is called James. The first one was called Harry. Pity the next poor sod.
