Ok, there has been a late surge of votes for Ivan Golac at RB, so he replaces Jason Dodd in the team.
Which is so far as follows...

Now this category is slighty different, you will be required to select TWO players from the list, Please remember that I can only post ten names so name any alternative in the thread if he isn't on the list.

Oh **** this is tricky. Toby is one of them. But the other slot could go to one of 4 in there from my POV.

Sorry Jose, but I have to rule you out. It's got to be Svensson as the other CB for me.

Yes, I'm torn between Killer and Mark Wright, with Jose, Dave Watson and Deano making it even harder. Toby has to be there I think.

Agreed, very difficult. Chris Nichol was also excellent. On the whole I'd have to say Michael Svensson and Mark Wright. Both fast, tigerish, yet composed. Matty made Wrighty look decidely ordinary when he eventually went to guess where, of course. Then again, Matty made every midfielder and defender look decidely ordinary at some point.

I went for Killer and Jose, purely because Toby has only been here a season.

It does make me laugh that the majority are (rightly) claiming Toby is probably the best centre half we've EVER had, yet baulking at paying £18m :)

OK, I plumped for Killer and Toby in the end. On the grounds that being here only for one sesson shouldn't disbar them, I honestly think that Bertrand and Alderweireld are right up there with our greatest ever in their positions.

And I wouldn't baulk at paying £25 million for Toby (don't tell Atletico though...)

The mentality of some fans is incredible <doh>. They want players to be loyal, but will vote for Alderweireld over Fonte is. Fonte been here years, since January 2010, has probably played 10 times as many games for the club and is the captain. Alderweireld has only played 20 times at centre back for Southampton and was only here on loan. On top of it Fonte was better this season for me, both from what I think and according to the stats. Some of the neutrals also seem to pick Fonte in their combined eleven for the season and none of them pick Alderweireld.

I'm picking the BEST players. That's what this is. Toby is the best CB I have seen in a Southampton shirt - therefore I voted for him and I am not going to apologise for picking him over Jose. Jose is a club legend, no doubt about it, but Toby is a better player than him. Hence why his price tag is up towards 20mill.

That's what these polls are all about, to provoke debate. Anyone is free to choose who they want, for whatever reason and people are allowed to question the choices, but no one opinion is more valid than another.

I don't agree with you that Alderweireld is better, but you are entitled to your opinion of course. The price tag, and interest, is high for Alderweireld compared to Fonte due to the age difference. A similar situation happened with Lovren. Lovren is 25 and went for a big fee, Alderweireld is 26. Many Saints fans I came across thought Lovren was amazing, better than Fonte. I didn't agree with them on that either. Fonte is 31, has recently started getting a run in the national side and it looks like he is going to be a regular from now on. They let in two against Armenia without him, then kept a clean sheet against Italy with him playing the full 90 minutes. He is still getter better.

I still find it remarkable anyone would vote for Alderweireld over Fonte. Hence my comment. But that's just what I think, vote for whoever you want.

I'm fine with people disagreeing but to call my mentality incredible for picking Toby is frankly ludicrous. He's shown his immense quality in the season he's been with us.

Remarkable or not, that's my choice. As I said in my post above, I don't believe it should be anything to do with the length of time they have been at Southampton, or their loyalty or leadership qualities or any other factor.

And by implication you are comparing Toby to Lovren, by which I take it you mean that Jose made Alderweireld look good, just as he did with Lovren. The answer is that our whole defence last season was possibly the best it has ever been while we have been in the Premier League, so something must have improved it, and the changes consisted of Toby and Bertrand, plus the improved form of Yoshida when he was needed.

Tintin - this is about who you think is best, not your favourite, not the one who has played the most games. It is an opinion on playing ability, not your loyalty to the player.
