Nice to see the pride of Australia, So You Think, take to the course in the UK, for the second time. I've really enjoyed the swathe the sprinters from Down Under have cut through the G1 Premier races in the last handful of years. I've always believed deep down, that our stayers were up to the task as well. Of course So You Think is more than just your average G1 horse. But I still think we can compete in any of the non Classics. I don't think our three year olds are of a lesser standard the the European product, it's just the breeding seasons that see us at a major disadvantage. I've read on a number of sites, about the opinions of the Northern Hemisphere racing fans, when it comes to the merits of the UK and European milers. The name So You Think has been conspicuous by it very absence. There seems to be a solid trend of thought in the "North" that So You Think is better suited to probably a mile and a half. This can't be argued. But he's showed great pace in the best WFA event in Australia, the Cox Plate, run over 10 furlongs. I'm firmly of the opinion that So You Think is the best 10 furlong horse in the world. He has the ability to charge straight to the front, as he's done in the past, and defy them to run him down. Over a mile, I'd be more than willing to put him up against Frankel, Canford Cliffs and Goldikova, who I believe to be the best of the Northern brigade. I can't for a second blame the European race fan, for underrating the Australian super star. They have had precious little in the way of a yard stick by which to measure him, that is not their fault, it's ours, for not sending staying horses North before this point in time. I have two great hopes. One is that So You Think can confirm his status as one of the best horses on the planet, and that the horse's sojourn in the North, will inspire more Australian owners to take up the challenge of a campaign in the home of thoroughbred racing.
Well said, would be great to see more horses head over and take on the Europeans and give them a chance to show who is best. I guess the fear is that if a horse loses then the stud fee takes a tumble but based on previous successes from Oz it has to be worth the trip to try.
Yeah Pro, we in Oz suffer from the big fish in the small pool complex. It tend's to make us a bit insecure when it comes to the deep end of things. I never knew you to be a Kiwi mate. I guess you more than most will understand the feeling.
A Kiwi who lived in the UK for a few years with a couple of years via Oz, great country over there you have. I am hoping So You Think will show up the Europeans and it will entice a few more to heaver, good money and a chance to beat the Poms is a good excuse. What do you think of Black Caviar? Do you think they will head to Hong Kong or stay safe at home?
Now that she's out of the Doomben 10000, it looks as though she'll go to the paddock. (a good thing I might add.) There is a chance she might be back for the Spring in Melbourne where she might have a single run before Hong Kong. They wanted to take here there, then England mid next year, then maybe onto Japan. But who knows. I'm just as much up in the air as everyone else mate.
I didn't realise you were a Kiwi either Progambler. I see you are a Forest fan. How is Nathan Tyson doing? He used to be our top scorer. We were giving A Villa the run around in the Carling Cup just before I came to France, then Tyson went off injured and we went from 3-1 up to ....gulp. cough... can't remember.
