Well it certainly looks as if our talisman and hero is making an emotional and much deserved return to his boyhood club and it is hard to begrudge him that. He has been magnificent for us in that coveted No.7 shirt. We have had some iconic figures wear that number for Saints, so will we get a special player to don that shirt next and follow in he footsteps of these special players: Terry Paine Kevin Keegan Matthew Le Tissier Rickie Lambert
We've had some very special players wear this number for Saints and it is becoming an iconic number for us. Terry Paine Kevin Keegan Matthew Le Tissier Rickie Lambert Are there anymore classics to have worn the No.7 for Saints who should be on this list? I hope the next No.7 is up to the task.
With this seemingly clueless board running things I wouldn't be surprised if Ralph got the no7 shirt....and then he could wear it in his misleading interviews...(misleading I mean bullshit).
And I was hoping for a thread with either a view nice memories away from the moaning! Thanks Lamballana, Gilchrist was heroic that day, but I'm not sure if he fits "Iconic Wearer" status. Did Nick Holmes wear it for a period too?
Yes I think so FLT. Was going to suggest him but not sure he ever had that sort of cult status. Pity Stevie didnt.
Just looking at our history of no7s I forgot Andrei Kanchelskis was given the shirt? Even Kevin Phillips had it for 2 years but prior to Matt I am struggling to think of any....
I knew Phillips did but he doesn't get on that list. Maybe that's why it's so special, that only a few have made it iconic.
I've merged these two identical threads. Thought I had double vision for a moment! Whoever gets the no.7 shirt will have a lot to live up to. I'd quite like to keep the number 7 vacant for a while until one of the academy boys is deemed worthy of the kudos. Unless we sign Ronaldo of course...
Talking of the new number 7, who will be our new penalty taker? Guessing Ramirez and JWP will share free kick duties
Fair enough, it's your list fella. But he did score some cracking goals for us. I'm thinking of the two he scored at Old Trafford to level things up after we'd gone 2-0 down. Both absolute scorchers as I recall.
When we played Yeovil in the Cup, Rodriguez was set to take the penalty before they gave the ball to Guly, so I guess he was next on the list. I reckon Schneiderlin could take a good penalty
