How many times do we hear various clubs claiming a certain player they have bought or developed as the next Zidane, Messi etc etc etc. Lets assume that player is simply Alex Ben Charles, why then do we need to label the youngster as the next Ronaldo instead of ABC? Your assuming way too much, and putting pressure on the young ABC to be as successful as his predecessor. so he will either end up failing or will become so up himself his natural talent will never develop fully. Jut let him develop naturally. I am pretty confident that the likes of Shearer, Henri, Scholes, Beckham were not subjected to this nonsense. Maybe we might see in a player a similarity to one of the greatest players ever, but casting them as the next Zidane is downright stupid
Isn't it the media who tend to do this rather than the clubs themselves? I may be wrong, but I can't remember instances of a club saying that someone is the new someone. Comparing them to someone maybe. I guess the media do it to a) make a description in terms of playing style easier (assuming the comparison is accurate) and b) make the story sound more interesting.
Rooney the next Gazza hence the Wazza title, really f**ing stupid and our very own Ricky Lambert has recently done it calling Sterling Razza. This has to stop now!
"The wazza is a type of horn played in Sudanese music. The wazza is a long wind instrument constructed from combined cow horns, and while blown it is also tapped for percussive effect." Sounds appropriate. Razza?
Sorry Nozzer, what I meant by other clubs, was other clubs supporters claiming one of their players was the next Messi etc., my mistake
Ah right. Then I would assume the reasons are a) make a description in terms of playing style easier (assuming the comparison is accurate) and b) make the player, and by association club, sound better. Completely agree that it's stupid.
It's Rickie actually but who the hell spells it like that? Rickie Lambert = The next Messi, you just wait and see.
If Rickie Lambert becomes the next Messi, I will bare my arse to the four corners of Traflagar square
Houllier actually said Cheyrou could be the next Zidane. Glenn Hoddle once said there was something of the Brazilians about, wait for it, Paul Furlong.
Purely hypothetical Milk etc, I dont think there is even the remotest chance of it happening you can better odds on the pope turning protestant, the Messiah returning as prime minister of Australia, and Liverpool becoming one of Europe's elite
