At the tail end of last season, when we had drifted back to middle of the table obscurity, we all felt safe and warm in knowledge that we had secured enough points for our safety and the coming seasons efforts, our thoughts drifted to players departing and players joining us. I am pretty certain we all knew Magnusson, Reid, Bryan and Flint would go, the window opened and away they went, the cry went out for a new goalkeeper, striker, midfielder, the new band of angels joined us and no one can say we have not progressed as a team, in fact we are doing bloody well, fair play to management, team and off field developments. We are now heading to towards the next transfer window, we must be looking at further strengthening of our team to carry us through the 2nd half of the season. No dispute we are now a very capable team and will improve or, will we get complacent and make a complete shoddy, expensive mess of our transfer activities this January or has the research been crafted correctly and we know the candidates we are after, will they join us? also will the finances be made available or will we sit on our profits? If we do invest, what positions do you feel we need to cover and can you name any individuals you feel we would benefit from joining us. Just a thought process.
I feel that we have the right 14 regular 90 minute reps on the pitch 6, that rotated for the other 4 places are pretty good cover and a solid back up contingent MO HAK etc about 6-8 players McCoulsky has proved where the net is … been out on loans where he has got game time and goals but now languishs on loan getting the odd 5 mins and we say "we need a striker" we also have a number of players on loan getting similar treatment! other player similar or younger ages get "grabbed" put in the team and do very well … Ollie for example …………………………! what do we need in the next window? to early to tell... more importantly is how many points can this team put on the board by 7th January ...I would like to see 39pts. I also think LJ made a fundamental mistake last night .. he reverted to the team style of the before the last game …….. when I saw it I thought OH NO we will get hammered .. we didn't / did, but managed to rescue a 2-0 defeat. An away game … need to be a bit defensive and use our "speedy type of play" to cause odd problems ... Fammy is our main striker Weemer / Taylor are foils … Niclas is our winger .. Watkins Lee's mate! ADD Odowda and Paterson to that 5 and there you have our strike force perm 4 from 7! between them you would expect them to be responsible for at least 30 goals before the next window … plus assists to others outside that group!
I would love to see a John Stead/ Aaron Wilbraham type to join us up front and that class goalkeeper we have all been asking for and oh for another Marvin Elliot.
The keeper from the states will be coming in,The most important post to fill,we need a midfield general. Having said that hulk in goal is a massive step up on Frankie.
Agree with most of this , but not the last sentence, you are so anti FF , I could go in goal and you’d say it was a massive upgrade .. sorry but once Frankie is fit I can see him seeing off the new guy, at least so far he’s not proven to be that good RR . In answer to the question of the thread , agree with most , dominant midfield general , as others have said , we could be in trouble if josh or Marlon get a knock especially with Smith being out long term. I think we need another striker , target man type so we have different options , Wilbraham type, as Wiz said, would be ideal. We do need another keeper , as I don’t think the new guy is good enough , and FF is a more than adequate back up, if there is money available then a serious upgrade to FF would be good, but we need to spend decent money bring in someone of quality , the American guy did seem to be an option if we can negotiate the obstacles.
Completely disagree on the goalkeeper situation. The Hulk commands his box,kicking,distribution a massive improvement on FF. But i respect your views.
As I respect yours , football is all about opinions, will be interesting to see what happens when FF is fit .
