As there doesn't seem to be a thread about who we actually want, from the range of possible names mine would be

    1. Rosler
    2. Mackay
    3. Zola
    4. Hypia
    5. Steve Clarke
    6. Garcia
    7. Lennon
    8. Adams
    9. Culverhouse / Karsa
    10. Sherwood

I'd be happy with any of those top 6, some are certainly risky. Given what I know of them I'd rate Mackay as stone wall as we could get for at least a play off berth. There is no way we'd go the way of Wolves with him here.

I'd also think Rosler and Lennon would be good bets for a guaranteed play off spot.

I think Steve Clarke and Rosler could be a good mix of Mackay and Zola. Moving away from the CH regime but not too drasticallyto cause disruption.

I'd love Zola here, the transfer window would be fantastic and a refreshing change. I find him to be the most exciting of all the candidates.

I wouldn't touch Sherwood with Paul Lamberts. All mouth and no brain.

    To round up I have:

Mackay, Rosler and Lennon as being most likely to get us promoted

Rosler, Clarke, Zola, Garcia, Hypia as being the more progressive

Adams, Culverhouse as just too big a risk

I'd have to agree with most of what you've said there.

I like Zola, he seemed to do a good job at Watford, though I'm not entirely sure why he lost his job. Didn't he have quite a bad run of games?

Lennon and Mackay certainly seem the safest options.

Not so keen on Garcia though. Didn't see anything that particularly excited me about Brighton this season, and considering they were playing some lovely football under Poyet, you have to wonder what Garcia really brought to the table.

I wouldn't take Sherwood and I think Adams and Culverhouse are too inexperienced.

I'd defnitiely take Clark or Hypia though they seem to be outside contenders, not that any of us really know whats going on any more!

I'm fine with either Malky or Lennon, both run tight ships and have players running through brick walls for them which is an attitude we clearly lacked this season. Neither played the prettiest football but I doubt you'd see either tactically out manoeuvred in the same way Hughton was.

Zola I worry about, he seems to start at clubs with grand ideas and slowly loose his way. Clarke would be a good option, still not sure why WBA let him go he's very counter attacking. I know little of Hyypia style of play the only game i saw that he managed was them getting heated 5-0 by United where as you might imagine they looked poor.

I think Adams has basically already been earmarked as the number 2 for next season which i think is a good move, know the squad and the youth, has a good attacking mind and it will be good for players like Redmond and Murphy to have him around. Interestingly neither Lennon nor Malky are in a position to bring in their previous assistants.

Culverhouse is the sort of idea that its so mad it might work, i think we need to move on from those days though.

With Zola you may not get instant success but you would be looking at is a culture change in the way we play.

It may be a season or 2 before we get back to the PL but in my opinion we need to develop a style of play to be successful in the future. CH really regressed us unfortunately and now we don't know who we are as a team.

I certainly see Zola as being risky and ill suited to what we have in the squad (or likely squad). He's never had the chance at club considered one of the favourites.

I think Clarke fell out with Jeremy Peace over the transfer dealings early in the season, he openly criticised the delays in getting players.

I agree wholeheartedly with the culture change, however it will be much, much harder to gain promotion in two years time, once you miss the boat down here it can take many cycles of players and managers (as we well know) to get back.

Petty much agree with you Cards, but with this delay in the new man being named I feel that Malky is behind at least one of the other employed candidates. Otherwise I can see no reason for a delay in naming him.

I agree with most of what has been said here. From those named, my choice would be between Malky, Lennon and Zola, though I wouldn't rule out Clarke who, like Malky, has a good grounding in the English Leagues. I also feel that we need promotion this year or we will go on drifting for years again, like Bolton, Blackburn and Blackpool. Malky is the best bet for that in terms of experience and motivation. Lennon has neither played or managed in the English leagues and that could be a major disadvantage, though he is also a good motivator and is clever in the transfer market. Zola does have considerable experience in the English leagues both as player and manager and his attacking approach would be welcome, though it would also carry risks. Clarke has experience in the PL, but not in the Championship and I don't know his qualities as a motivator.

For that reason my order of choice would be 1: Malky for the best chance of promotion, 2: Zola for the combination of experience and an attacking approach, 3: Lennon for his motivator qualities and transfer successes and 4: Clarke.

If it is Malky and Adams becomes first team coach, City would have a good blend of skills in the management staff. My feelings about it anyway.

Whilst I agree that Rosler looks to have an excellent future in management ahead of him, and would be a good short-term appointment I really don't think he would be the man for our long-term strategy as surely he'd be off like a shot as soon as a bigger club came in for him. He has shown he is ambitious by jumping the Brentford ship after only a couple of seasons, and if he were to leave Wigan for us this summer then that would be an even better example. Didn't realise he had a few jobs in Norway already, he didn't hang around any of them for very long either. Also didn't realise that he had battled and beaten lung cancer as well.

I can't argue with any of your summary though, it's still Malky for me <ok>

True, though Swansea went through a style transformation despite having relatively regular changes in manager because each of the appointments subscribed to the style, which meant there was consistency.

Much as I'd like Rosler, I can't see him coming anyway because if truth be told we are not a significantly better prospect than Wigan.

Whoever it is I would like to see a decision as quickly as possible now and am slightly concerned by the lack of progress as it can be unsettling for the squad as a whole. Has the post been offered and we have been turned down?

As I said on another thread I don't care who it is as long as he is an a*se kicker. No more nice guys letting the Club drift back into a holiday camp which probably rules out Zola who, if I recall correctly, succeeded at Watford when he was allowed to borrow virtually a complete team from Italy but failed when the authorities shut that loophole.

Or did he fail because he lost an entire team overnight?

I'm starting to become more inclined toward Zola. My only issue is, as you say, that he isn't enough of a disciplinarian. Some of these players really need a rocket or two shoved up their backsides.

It certainly looks like the link with Lennon is gathering pace.
Let's not forget though that WBA in the prem are also looking?

I don't see Leicester giving Nigel Pearson the boot at this time.

West Ham are keeping Sam Allerdyce

Leaving Fulham, West Brom and Norwich. I would cut that down to the last two as I don't think Fulham will be making yet another managerial change just yet.

I will support him 100% if he gets the job, but I really hope it's not Lennon as I have a bad feeling about that one.
