Reading through this weeks newspaper rumor mills,it appears we could be in for all and sundry. the names that keep repeating themselves are.
Sharpe Doncaster, ~ Gunter Notts F, ~ Trotter Milwall,
Maynard Bristol, ~ Huarau PSG, And I suppose many more in the next few days.
My choice from this batch would be Huarau, 27 6ft 3in,French international, but the price
would have to be right,no silly money.
Re Trotta, : if suddenly he appeared from out of the blue, putting in the performances he has at Wycombe,I suppose we would be one of the clubs in the frame, waving sums of 1/2mil.
Bring in a proven c/f on loan till the summer window, but keep looking.
A full back of quality and a Danny Murphy cover, must be our priority,
    at this point in time.

Trotta is already on our books, he's just on loan at Wycombe, no?

And I'd go for Maynard, from what I've heard he seems the real deal. A cheeky striker loan would be good too, maybe Pavlyuchenko. Can't see United letting Berba go.

If I was to take a chance on the players named above, I'd go for

    Maynard
    and
    Gunter

The Sun says Norwich, Fulham Blackburn all chasing Gunter

Could Guillaume Hoarau of PSG be the new Saha or Marlet ? try a loan to find out.

To be fair, Roscafre, if Trotta was a Wycombe player who had burst on the scene with 5 goals in 3 matches (or whatever it is), many of the regulars here would - quite reasonably - be saying 'Ooh, he's unproven. It's too big a risk even at a couple of million.' I'm delighted that he's doing so well, and part of me wants Jol to put him into first team action this season for us, but I'm not convinced that's the right thing, either for him or for the club. It's a nice dilemma to have though.

Maynard would be my choice. Probably fits better in the style of football Jol is advocating.

As for Trotta I agree with all those saying he needs more time on loan. Bringing him in too early can be dangerous with so many hot headed footballers..

I can almost say this with total confidence but there will always be a surprise signing. People like Sa and Gignac popped up on deadline day as well as Ruiz, none of which we had expected to be linked with. There's little point speculating about players coming in as most of the time the rumours turn out to be nonsense.

The French papers say we have struck a deal with Marseille for Andre-Pierre Gignac on a loan for 6 months with an option to buy at 8m euros (£6.7m). Since he will have to prove his fitness, apart from anything else, a loan makes sense.

Bristol City have also said that Maynard can go, so I guess we'll be sniffing around (£4m ?).

Hi Guys hope you all had a good Christmas.

Please no Nicky Manyard - speaking from first hand experience of watching him over the last few months at Ashton Gate, he would not fit in with us. Scores great goals yes, but does not work hard enough IMO. He rarely moves towards the ball and always expects the perfect ball in order to create a chance.

Bandit - Those signings are the best ones!

I wouldn't count Sa as 'one of our best ones' ;)

Rephrase needed - I mean 'Most exciting' ones rather than best ones. (You know - The ones that make you glad your team has signed 'someone' on transfer deadline day rather than no one at all...

Deadline day always makes me wish I supported Spurs, they have a manager who always managers to pull off these outstanding signings that no-one expects (RVDV, Adebayor, Parker) but I think every supporter wants their team to be involved in deadline day purely for the sake of signing someone! To be fair we made some good signings last deadline day with Grygera and Ruiz coming in, let's hope for similar come February 1st ;)

20 in 39 in last year, life time of 167 in 394. Compare that to Johnsons 146 in 443 lifetime, with 3 goals in 29 (12 as a sub) last season, and Bobbys 146 in 444 lifetime, with 7 in 16 last year, and your definately going uphill in my opinion. Not the best, but better than what we have at the moment.

No doubt, but I find it difficult to believe he's on his way to the Cottage. I hope I'm wrong though.

I am not saying he is joining. But Jol appears to have a hold over the Al Fayed and Mackintosh. Just look at how this Gignac thing turned out. The scouts are normally very involved in a signing, while they haven't with a rather large Gignac outlay. Bent has been watched by scouts though, which makes me think something is going on, I hope we don't sign Bent though. He is getting on a bit. I think he's had his best years. Anything we pay will be overpriced too.

Celtic have signed a new right back - the Swede Mikael Lustig. Does this mean we will follow up our previous (alledged) interest in Williams?

I think Celtic signed a new defender to replace Hooiveld who joined Southampton. Darren Bent definitely won't be coming here. Villa paid nearly £30 million for him and he hasn't done badly there so you're looking at either matching that price or God forbid improving on it.
